I saw this video on a Facebook page i don't know if it's a common problem but i am sure i have seen the buffer plate (don't know its actual name) that was the problem somewhere here he says in Australia they have already recalled cars.

Great explanatory post, I wonder if Toyota have recognized it as a recall item?

Happened already to few members here. Also been happening on Priuses gen 3 previously including broken springs , plenty of videos on YouTube.
Always happens when the car is under heavy acceleration or higher torque transmission and sometimes can also happens when accelerating and hit a pothole and cause wheel spins.

Sounds like that's what happened to the guy in the video.

It did happen to me too. Full throttle uphill and I hit a massive pothole, the engine revved up very high and then silence and all lights came up like Christmas tree, the car went into N and that was it , I was lucky I could stop on the side of the road. I took me few weeks before I gain trust in it again but lesson learned, take it easy while rough roads and don’t push that hard. These cars also can surprise you when you are under heavy braking and hit the pothole, the brakes will become almost non existent and the only way to regain braking power is to release and press again, something not usual at all and only trained driver will do, 👍

I am starting to wonder if I've been saved by the traction control from having this happen to me more often!

(The traction control in the Mk4 is really good; It's the only car I've owned that hasn't tried to have a one-tyre-fire when I've emerged at full power from a certain steep/acute T-junction that I've mentioned before as a good test of a tyre's grip!)

The one time I posted about sounds similar, although the car didn't cut out but carried on as normal, just with a shed load of scary messages cycling on the centre display!

it's only on the mk4 yaris not the mk3 2012-2020 (late)

there is already a recall to flash the ecu with a different map, the Mk4 is a new platform with a new engine, there will always be issues for the first few years as they get mileage on them it shows the bigger issues
