Headlight levels settings

Being aware that my T-Spirt has self levelling headlights. That is all very well as long as they self level from a pre-dedicate/set datum level that is correct . I am almost certain my dipped beam headlights are not at the correct level, as they hardly throw any beam at all. The self levelling is definitely working.

Is it possible, and how does one, manually set the initial level (prior to automatic levelling happening) ?

Many thanks and Regards, John

Hello John I don't know if your car has a headlight adjustment wheel on the dash with yours being self leveling.

If so try that,if you haven't already.

Otherwise a garage or MOT station will have beam setters to check the throw and spread of the beams, and may mechanically adjust for you if needed, for I'm guessing a small charge.

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately the T-Spirit is fitted with HID lights and has no adjustment in the car because they are self levelling. Some would say that is a good thing but I would prefer to be able to adjust them. As I initially said, auto adjust is ok if you can be certain that the given adjustment is from a given and correct datum .

Perhaps, as you have said an MOT station check (the car was actually MOT`d about six weeks ago, not that it means much maybe) may prove beneficial if I can stay there and actually see the recorded settings on the prescribed beam setters.

Best Wishes and Regards, John

Ok , I understand now.

Auto everything just complicates things in my book, especially with no manual override.

And yes, you make a good point about the beam setters, when I had my AX new in 1989 I thought the dipped beams were too low.

So got it on a MOT beam setter, and they adjusted them for me, only trouble was whizzing up and down the A1 all the time back then.

I got flashed all the time even over the median, so the beams were far too high.

IIRC, I then adjusted them myself by means of the tri lobed wing nut type things at the back of each headlight against a white painted wall.
