Tyre pressure symbol

I wouldn't stress too much; I did used to check my tyres regularly but since the new cars have real time displays of the tyre pressures, then as long as they're not stupidly low (Like in the 20s) then you're okay.

What freaks me out is in summer - I see them climb from normal sane cold pressures to very high pressures on a long motorway run!! I just have to keep reminding myself this is perfectly normal and not something to be concerned about :fear:

In the 40+ years i have been driving i have never had a tyre indicator i am not about to start stressing when i see the indicator is on at -7 and it isn't at -4.

BTW it went out after a couple of miles when i took the wife shopping earlier  😉

Fearless 😉

Not really the lower tyre pressure will help with traction in the snow 😉

My old RAV4 had terribly leaky alloys towards the end. It was an ongoing battle in the winter. Sometimes dropped as low as 12!

My first car with alloys was a Mondeo Ghia.  Beautiful car, no TPMS in those days but I did have a slow pressure loss on one wheel.  A short burst of tyre inflator cured the loss.

That was before the controvosy regarding repairability of tyres after the gunk had been used.

Btw low pressure in tyres is worse than higher pressure. Since the big freeze began a week or so ago I seen  every night a lots of cars with blown up tyres on the motorways. I did checked mine they went down from 2.33 at 7C° down to 2.25 bar at -4C° all that within a week. And for a first time ever the car refused to stay in ev mode even though I had full Battery and hvac off. Today at -1C° I did started and selected ev mode to move to a sunny place and the car remained in ev mode , unfortunately the sun was not enough to melt the ice in my washer tubes, still no screenwash fluid, will be a spray bottle tonight.

Ahh one of my colleagues had a diesel one of those - A very comfy old barge I have to say. Thing just rode over speed cushions like they weren't there! :naughty:

Had to get rid of it eventually as everything electronic stopped working one by one  Weirdly it still drove perfectly fine, but the windows stopped working, the radio stopped working, bits of the dash stopped working until the speedo stopped working too which is when he finally gave up on it and IIRC got a brand new Fiesta instead!

For instance my Yaris Cross was delivered with all tyres at 2.7 bar.  When I set them to the correct pressure the TPMS light illuminated.  I had to follow the reset procedure whereupon the light extinguished.

Just got around to adjusting up my YC tyres. The correct rear pressure is 29 psi, but I found I got still got an amber warning unless >30 psi. I think it has probably has been setup to 32 psi for all corners. Guess I need to do the reset. Are the on-board sensors accurate? Their reading was a couple of psi higher than my compressor dial.

I use an AA Digital compressor.  It cuts out at about 0.5 psi above setting.  The car was reset to the correct values. These values were correctly displayed on the screen.

There’s a tolerance on your pressure gauge and the pressure sensors.  I use a milwaukee inflator or a mains compressor depending on what I’m up to and that adds a third tolerance.  I inflate then to 2.2 and 2.0 if the light goes out bingo.  If it doesn’t I then reset it but they tend not to sort themselves until you’ve had a run in it.
