Hi all,

A friend of mine uses a Battery isolator on his Vauxhall Omega, and recommended I get one, as my Yaris, just sits outside the house for a few weeks at a time, as I am a volunteer driver with the local community car scheme and am driving that for most of the week, and if I take a passenger to the shops, then I tend to pop in and get anything I need at the same time.

If I fit one, (it just means a quick turn of a knob to arm/disarm) are there any side effects, other than the clock being wrong?

TIA

Some cars may go through a throttle relearn after a long power cut, maybe a reset of other ECUs, could affect electric windows and similar. Nothing too onerous, but make sure you get it installed properly. Bad connections, under gauge wiring and similar can cause heat, faults and fires. Keep the cowboy fitters out of it.

Best not to do anything to the car. If the car is hybrid with small 12v Battery and you would li,e to preserve the life of it best to use solar or mains powered smart charger and charge once a month or keep connected if solar when the car is not in use. 👍

I keep forgetting that these can often be hybrid now, with their own Battery maintenance needs. 🤔

What, so you'd have to pop the bonnet every time you want to drive it...?

I don't think there'd be any major side-effects judging by how many hybrid owners have had 12v flats and been fine

You might have to reprogram all your radio stations every time??
