Hi all,

07 Avensis D-4D TR.

The gas struts for the hatchback have failed. They provide no support at all now that the weather has turned cold. Are they easy to replace? It looks as though I will have to remove some trim to get to one end, is this easy to do?

Thanks,

Neil.

You shouldn't have to remove anything to replace them.  Hold the back door up with a brush or a length of wood because it will be very heavy.

Don't rely on one prop.  My garage, while I was watching, knocked the prop.  Luckily he caught it.

Hi mate, I have a 2005 Avensis and my struts failed - £200 later 😞 Honestly they take a lot of weight - I read loads of reviews where the struts just bent under the weight.  Toyota only part - hence the expense.

It's impossible for the struts to bend under the weight and, they are not a Toyota only part, they are readily available from just about any motor factor, eBay, Amazon etc.

I've got a pair being delivered tomorrow, £15, specifically for my D4-D TR. They seem easy enough to replace, the originals have lasted 15 yrs, so can't complain.
