Smart Key Control Module Toyota Auris

Hi

I have a major problem and its been lingering for about 5 weeks now.

Toyota Auris Hybrid Battery died.  After recharge/battery replacement the car wont start up. Toyota main dealer diagnosed the problem to Smart Key Control Module being faulty. They quoted me an eye watering £1500 to have it replaced. My mum cant afford that much its her car.

I brought genuine one replacement part of eBay asked if Toyota if they code which they said they could. Today they called me saying cant code as the smart key control module is locked to previous car it was taken off and they would need the keys for that car. I asked could they not just wipe off what is on the smart key control module and copy over what is on my original one. They said cant do that as it is locked.

I am finding this hard to believe. There must be way to get the replacement smart key control module mapped to my existing keys right? and then if needed coded to the main ECU that controls the engine start up and stuff. Has anyone else come across this problem. Would a car key dude be able to code the keys to the working Smart key control module?

Part no. 89990-02130 Toyota Auris 2010 Hybird 1.8

Techstream has the reset options, and when you select it, it should delete all keys, and after that you can register new one.

Atleast in theory. I'd try calling another dealer and asking the same, maybe the ones you called are just not experienced, or  don't want to do it.

Obviously, if you look the red rectangular, it shows it's not so simple, and needs someone with experience on the topic.

Have you maybe opened the broken control module?

Alternative would be to have it checked by someone who fixes such things, and maybe it can be repaired, if it's just a faulty component, or a part can be scavenged from the new module.

Do you have Relax-warranty?  I think ECU is included in Relax-Warranty including the controller for keys. But yours is 2010 and is out of relax-warranty.  You can ask a good keysmith who can do reprograming new keys to the car.  it is often way cheaper as long as you have at least a working key that can be transponded to the new keys.   I believe we also can re-program or reset a used key too.

Via Toyota Techstream resetting or deletion from the certification (Smart) ECU requires one matched/coded master key, once the ECU is matched to a key set at least one of those keys is required to code in new keys or delete old ones.

There are likely third party key suppliers that can hack the system and clone new keys to the used ECU
