Electric cars a white elephant ?

I take the points made about climate change and science slew through its propagation via the media however the precautionary principle is always one that may be proven to be unwarranted given time but never catastrophic of consequence in its application. So basically to behave as if it is our fault is okay even if it isn't. Doesn't mean any of us should be driven to sack cloth and ashes though.

I don't think it is the manufacturers fault for the lack of charging structure it is more the EU and governments that have set a deadline for the move to the electric car without understanding the full implications of doing so or providing the money or conditions for companies to provide the infrastructure.   At least with electric cars there is an understanding of what they can supply and what is required to improve the situation.  When it comes to housing the proposed use of heat pumps is much further off the mark.

Although the EU's target date of 2035 is much more realistic than the UK government's target date of 2030. With so many things, 'world leading' requires a strategy and matching investment, not just a policy and the hope that something will materialise at some point...

There are now signs that EV popularity is starting to falter.

1. Musk is starting to discount some of his high end Teslas

2. A decline in market overall.

3. Range anxiety.

4. Charging infrastructure not in place and woefully inadequate.

5. Long charge times (not forgetting you could be in a long queue)

6. High initial purchase costs. (just look at the ridiculous purchase cost of a new  VW EVI ID5 £50k +).

I think the car industry tried to emulate Musk and they just got burnt. Horse and cart and possibly steam tractor here  I come.

Happy Xmas Guys/Girls

Here’s a good (8min) video which demonstrates how easy it is to cover large distances in a Tesla. Obv costs will be a bit different these days. . .

My sister did a similar journey in her Tesla Model S (which has 136,000 miles on it), and had similar experiences across France & Germany - rows & rows of superchargers which are barely being used. She has lifetime free supercharging with hers, so the cost of the journey was just the ferry.
