Starting your car via the MyT app

A few mornings this week I have started my car via the app, lovely getting into a warm defrosted car, the engine is still running as expected but when I go to get in it the engine stops. Is this normal or a glitch.

Anyone else noticed this?

No it’s normal.  It does two things, it makes sure you start from scratch in beginning your journey and go through the usual motions.  Secondly it stops an unauthorised person getting your car - you have to prove ownership by having the key on your person.

I have a question (don't want to start a new thread)

Can the MyT app have 2 credential registering one car? Meaning a partner can have their login and use the connected service for my car. Or they have to use my login details.

Nice one, I often wondered what the situation would be with the insurance if some low life stole the car by smashing a window while you were in the house this answers the the question, how long does it take to defrost the car?

There isn’t a definitive answer to that because it’ll depend how cold it is but if you leave the heater in auto and the temps on both sides to say 21, it will soon warm it up.  Leave the seat heaters on when leaving the car and they will generate heat too.

I can’t be sure about that.  I’ve definitely registered 2 phones to a Cross but I think you register connected services to one app.  I’d have to fiddle but you can do that too.

The FAQ in the app says a couple of things.

Can other members of my family use MyT Connected Services? The use of Connected Services is limited to the owner of a car, but the VIN can be added to multiple accounts.

Are multiple accounts possible? Yes and no. A car can be added to multiple accounts but only one account is for the entitled user and can therefore access connected services.

Not sure if you can have the same account active on two phones as there is linking process that happens.

I don’t quite understand the justification here. They give you two keys but only one person can find the car, pre-heat it and check the fuel. 🤨

The reason I asked is I have read idling cars for long periods is not good for the engine.

It depends how long and how often you do it.  It only needs a few minutes on a frosty day to start deicing but I wouldn’t suggest you left it a long time.   From memory it will cancel itself after a period of time but don’t quote me on that.  I had it on a Lexus but I did more playing than serious deicing because it never got that cold.  You could set the seat heaters on the app in that but the Cross has hard switches.

Toyota can operate hybrid engine at numerous modes, one of them is generate as much heat as soon possible even at idling or close to it to timing valves differently. So dont worry about the letting the engine idling in cold weather.

Used pre heat in anger last night.  The car park was a short walk from the hotel and it was -4.  Just before we left I selected 10 minutes heating.

It was still running when we got there and the car was toasty warm in less than 10 minutes

The only issue really is the legality of leaving the car running unattended. At the far end of a private car park I think OK.

With the Yaris Cross, remote start has three pre-sets; 10, 15 & 20 minutes. So it is only going to run for that length of time anyway.

When you say engine stops do you guys mean the car turn itself off completely or only the engine stops but the car remains active in ready mode?

It puts back to the same state as approaching the car for the first time.  You have to demonstrate you’re the authorised user.

I tried to switch on remotely today but couldn’t login. Was ok later, then down again.

Did anyone else notice this or is it just my phone/network.
