Aygo X Hood paint question

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

Received our Aygo X VVT-I Ex two days ago. We noticed that the hood had a paint defect which is only visible in low-light at certain angles only. The dealership delivery person was surprised to see it and mentioned that this was a factory issue which they were certain was fixed/hoods were replaced (something about putting a plastic protector while paint was wet?) and the fix is an under-warranty replacement. We are scheduled in for the replacement on Saturday.

Is this something others have encountered?

Thanks.

A.

If you had done a quick search on the forum, you would have come across my exact same issue.

In short, Toyota GB only offered to paint the front end...I said, no way, it's a brand new car.  "If" they had also offered some reimbursement, I "may" have possibly considered it.  Just remember, if you accept a respray, it WILL devalue your car.  I don't care what anyone says about this, it will.

My dealer stepped in and ordered me a brand new replacement.

It was a crap experience, however, my dealer was excellent.

Good luck .

Ah! I recall reading your other post (where you mention that your earlier car was on Autotrader) while I was researching the car model and never made the connection. I wasn't a car fan and wouldn't have been able to tell two cars apart 6mo ago. Till I qualified in Nov, I didn't even know Aygo X existed 😂 . I still call it Aygo 'Ex' much to the annoyance of the dealer who insisted on calling it Aygo Cross.

Toyota Morecambe has promised a replacement under warranty so I guess they know the problem and have a standard replacement solution in place.

And yes, the discovery of the paint damage is sneakily difficult as you mention in your original post (New Aygo X is being replaced).
We were lucky that the vehicle had to be delivered to door (due to paperwork snafu at their end) and it arrived at night and the dimly lit car-park perfectly accentuates the defect. No chance in hell that this would be visible in broad daylight unless one was tasked with looking for it.

Now I wonder if my Aygo X is a similar return (has about 3K mi and a 22 reg).

Fingers crossed. Will report back on Saturday after replacement.

The replacement went fine. Though I am left with a bit of an uneasy feeling. The mechanic told me that they took the bonnet off another new car and put it on the car. They said that a factory replacement would take weeks. But at least the new bonnet looks alright, sits right and doesn't have the paint blemish.

I asked my Toyota dealer the very same thing, why not whip a bonnet off another car and bolt it on.  They were not to keen because a possible colour mismatch, which I totally understand being a ex car paintsprayer, but maybe the car manufacturers paint batches nowadays are all the same !!

If it looks okay to you in various light, sunny, dull, night time etc, then your good to go.

I was in no rush to get my whole new car replacement, as I litterly just had a new Aygo X courtesy car and then I got a new one starting at zero miles again.

I am frankly unsure if the dealer is being helpful or naughty. Hence that uneasy feeling.

Since this is a deal ex-demo model, there was not much option with it. I couldn't actually tell if there was a colour mismatch, looks alright to me.

We could have waited but we were too excited to get on with the first car and use the Christmas break to get used to it.

We were already put off by some of the events surrounding it (they said the original car we saw was sold, and yet I saw it parked in the garage at the time of the bonnet change, they messed up the paper-work and thus delayed delivery on the actual car).

I love the model and the sneak features it seems to spring at me, but at the same time, I am missing the peace of mind I was hoping for with a near-new Toyota.

To be honest, if it looks okay as per previously mentioned and the wing/bonnet spacing is equal down both sides, no one will ever know about the bonnet change except you.

It's a shame, my "ordering a new car" experience was tainted because of my bonnet issue, but it turned out ok for me, although there was a bit of admin involved in contacting my insurers about the car change etc and of course, the buggers skimmed me for a admin charge.  But after my dealer providing the whole spare wheel kit, including fitting, I was not financially out if pocket.
