Mk 2 D4D Air con clutch assy

Hi all

I am trying to get my air con working on my Rav and I have tested signal to the compressor which is good but I am not getting continuity through the clutch coil.

I would like to change the coil but I'm having problems locating one for sale anywhere to fit my model.

Has anyone else had this issue and if so where did you get your coil from?

I suspect Toyota would want to sell me the compressor complete.

Many thanks.

Just a brief update on this.

Upon further testing it looks like the clutch coil is fine but the clutch itself is actually missing.

So I actually need a clutch not a coil.

Thanks

Can you post a picture of the clutch end of the compressor?

Not sure I can to be honest. If I could drag and drop the pic I would but this URL business has me stumped.

Copy/paste the photo using a web browser should work.

How do you know the clutch is missing?

Because it's not there.

The bolt and clutch have been removed or fallen off.

I can see the splines clearly

The clutch isn't shown in that picture,it's on the bottom pulley.

The lower pulley is the crankshaft. The one to the upper right is the air con pump less the clutch.

If someone has removed the clutch, something obviously isn't right.

In any case, I wouldn't fit a clutch to that.  I would think that the compressor has failed so I'd fit a new one.

Is it worth the time and expense?

It's going to be a lot easier to put one bolt in a clutch than degass then regass and remove the entire compressor.

The compressor is turning freely and is holding pressure since having it regassed in the summer so yes I think it's worth a punt.

Out of curiousity, why did you have it re-gassed in that condition?

At the time I didn't realise it was missing its clutch.

Normally the first thing you do if the air con isn't working is a regass.

Visibility is poor around that area and you can't see the clutch unless you remove the wheel arch panel which I did this week to do an oil and filter change.

Happy new year to all.

Ok so bit of an update on this.

My new £10 clutch arrived from Germany and it's fitted and all working.

Toyota wanted £600 for the part,  so for a tenner I decided to take a punt.

It took a while to get started due to having to guess the clearance but finally got it to run.

It's only running for around 10 seconds though, then it cuts out for around 5 seconds and restarts. It's as if it's hitting a high pressure limit or something.

Not sure if it is normal behaviour though do they all do this?
