Winter Tires Set (Corolla and Auris) TPMS compatibility

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I plan to install a set of Auris used winter tires complete with the TPMS sensor on newer Corolla.  As far as I know the whole wheel and tire specs are the same. 205/55R16  or 225/45R17, the patterns of the wheel 5x114.3 mm are also the same, the width of the rims are the same.  Can we also program the TPMS from Auris2 to Corolla? If they use the same frequency, in principle it can be programmed.  I believe tireshop or dealership can also detect the TPMS serial number without opening the tires.

Hi John,

the wheels are slightly different width between both models.
I think you can still exchange in between but the oem spec for Auris is 16”x 6.5J where for Corolla are 16”x 7J and if you fit Auris wheels to Corolla the whole set will poke 11mm less than original size., not a big deal but it may look a bit on a skinny side with tyres too much inside the body.

Regarding the TPMS sensors, my understanding from TheCarCareNut on YouTube since 2018 Toyota changed the sensors and the TPMS system,.
Therefore the sensors from Auris most likely will not work on Corolla e210.

I also thought the same but Corolla 2019 europe has different wheel patterns and hub, and also TPMS type (metal). USA version is 5×110 mm rubber stem TPMS. European version need programing, USA version automatically programmed

Are TPMS sensors protocols not standardized then??

No, they are not. There are 2 freq and also Toyota have 2 different version, USA and europe. The wheelhub are not the same either. USA corolla have the same wheelhub as Prius 2.  The USA wheel hub is 5x100, Europe  5x114.3 similar to Camry and Rav4 and other Asian cars (Accord, Civic, I30, i40, etc.)

That's why I use full size Mazda 3 2008 wheel and tire for the spare tire in my boot. I only need €20 for 205 55 16 used wheel complete and balanced. Donut tire cost more than €100 and only go max 50mph/80 kmh. 16" fit perfectly without any gap and replace  Styrofoam in Auris TS.

Yes, agree 100%. Only American enjoys new version TPMS that is more less generic and automatically programed to our car. I also found parts are way cheaper there. Filter cap in Prius 3 and Auris is about $35 there meanwhile here is €75. Don't buy parts like TPMS from UEA, 99.99% are fake.  Genuine TPMS have etched serial and unique, not generic. Never buy Toyota parts from unknown seller, not dealership.

The worst counterfeit parts are Sparkplugs, and Oil filters. It can ruins engine in just 1 oil change interval.
