Windscreen washer not working

My washer has stopped working. No noise when activating it just the wipers moving. Before I go to the dealers (under warranty, although they may say the cold weather has affected it and not covered). I just want to check the fuse hasn't  blown.  I have looked at the fuses under the glove compartment. There is a fuse for wiper (rear) marked on the fuse box lid,  but no front wiper or washer fuse mentioned.  Does anybody  know where the washer fuse may be located

Are you sure it hasn't just frozen?

Mine did that too, no noise, but once I'd run the engine for a while and it was up to temp it was working again.

Hi,

Had a good run today and its now 2 deg here so I would have thought it would have thawed if frozen. It was serviced ladt month and I know it was topped up with water and antifreeze so not really sure whats gone wrong except for a fuse. Not sure if the garage will say its damage caused by freezing.

Mine did the same on Monday thought it was frozen but noticed there was no buzzing noise so I checked the fuses.  Found the washer fuse in the box on the right side under the bonnet. It’s at the end of the middle row of fuses at the front of the box marked up as washer under the lid. It’s a 15 amp fuse and mine had blown. I’ve replaced it and it’s been ok since there was very little fluid in the tank so I’m hoping it was just a frozen motor but if it happens again I’ll be taking it to the dealer.

I am positive that is frozen, can be even the motor frozen. Happens to all, both our cars had that , rav4 forum already been posted, my one first shopped front wipers then rear, no motor sound , I did pour hot water over the tank and make them work again, however no spray was available because of ice along the tubes. I was using a spray bottle for 4 days, and now at around 3C° checked and everything worked fine. Just wait untimely tomorrow and all will be ok for you too. Don’t try to fix anything that ain’t broken. 👍

Can be, if you kept pushing the stork button to get washer working. I only tried once or twice and left it. Now everything is working fine in both cars. Fuse is ok to replace but motors in this cold will be a challenge. 👍

I like how some dealers and garages sell a sachet of screenwash.  I buy concentrate and use it at 50% year round. I never get frozen washers.

Likewise. When you can purchase a 5 litre container of ready mixed solution that is good down to -9°C for around £5 at most garages, why would you ever put anything in the washer bottle that is liable to freeze up in the winter?

Many of these ready mixed up to -15C° failed this time around., especially to the car owners that drive outside towns and where temperatures went down to -10C° . When extremely cold like it was a super concentrated screen wash can only eventually help. I have this one and is very good, didn’t mixed properly this time and got myself little trouble but found way to sorted out. PRESTONE PSCW0026A Extreme Performance Screen Wash, Yellow, 2 Litre https://amzn.eu/d/02ZtsIz
Also other concentrate that been using and can confirm they are good according to the season. 👍

Oops, my order was made a year ago. I did checked other places that sells Preston screen wash and everywhere is out of stock. Tesco, wilko and Asda can have in store eventually, worth checking when do weekly shopping. 👍

Amazon when states dispatch 1-4 weeks or 1 to 2 months, they often deliver within a week but display that to reduce the order numbers so can fulfil their all their orders. Don’t be shy to order and wait, if not delivered on time you can always cancel. This is applying for all products and particularly technology Apple products. 😉👍

I boughty this yesterday, Halfords own. Of course the weathers taken a turn for being warmer for a while now.

https://www.halfords.com/motoring/motoring-products/halfords--10-ready-mixed-screenwash-5l---berry-611727.html

Good down to -10C it says, will see, it was the mostly reasonably priced offering I could find that was readily available.

Managed to get 2Lt in the bottle this morning.

That’s only effective if you add it to an empty reservoir of course 👍

Yeap! I realise that, I put 2lts of that in my bottle which holds 3lts so it's mixed with a -5C screen wash already in there. Has to be better and will carry on topping it up as it gets used. It will tell I guess!

Took two hours of driving before my washer system thawed. I had the last of the summer screenwash in there. I snagged the last bottle of Rain-X -10 degree wash from my local Halfords. Since the warm days, I haven't been able to tell if it is any good in the cold. Personally, I'd rather not have the need to find out. ❄️

I purchased a 5L container of  concentrated Prestone Screen Wash from Costco in the summer.  Unfortunately, it is now out of stock from the Glasgow branch but it might be available from other branches in the UK.  This really is a quality product and the manufacturers state that in undiluted form it is effective in melting ice down to -23degrees.  Up till now I have used a 50/50 concentrate with water and it worked without adverse effect in -10 degrees conditions.

I have used Autoglym All Season concentrate for years, apparently good down to -45C neat.

It's become too expensive for me now though at around £36 for 5 litre. If it can be found! Although 5 litre does last a while depending on dilution.

Not much excuse really.   It’s the same as leaving the hosepipe out, that’ll freeze too.   You shouldn’t pay more than £5 per 5l for any branded concentrate.  Stick it in at 50/50 all year round and you won’t have to worry about.  There’s loads on the YC Facebook page, what do they think happens to water if the temp drops below freezing?   Those little condom sized packs that are on the counter in a garage won’t freeze….. as long as you don’t open it 🙄

My wife's 2022 Yaris has lost the washers too - there is fluid, it isn't frozen, I can't hear the motor. I'm assuming it is the fuse. Seems like a good case for a self resetting fuse.

Anyone know exactly where the REAR washer fuse is located on a mk3 Yaris hybrid ?  I’ve googled etc. but nothing definitive is coming up.

No but it was frozen.  Fluid needs to be at least 50% in strength ready for the winter because one inadvertent pull on the washer will blow the fuse.

For the hard of thinking, winter comes every year from about November.  😉👍
