D-4D 100kW 2007 - around rpms 1800 I can feel vibration to volant and acc pedal

Hello,

I would need your advice. I have C Verso 2007, D-4D, 100kW, 430t km.

I can feel quite strong vibrations if engaged 6th speed and rpms around 1800. But the same rpms and 5th speed has no this effect. Not even the same car speed with engaged 5th speed.

What could cause this strange behaviour? Which depends on rpms and engaged 6th speed?

Thank you, Martin

Hi Martin,

Seems strange that your only getting vibrations at those rpm's when in 6th gear. Initial thoughts were that it could be clutch related but think you would have similar problems in other gears. Perhaps a gear box bearing problem with 6th but would image you would have accompanying noise with that.

Have you checked the engine mounts? My partners Citroen C1 (Aygo) had a judder around 1800 rpm even when stationary tried replacing two engine mounts. The second one turned out to the main problem, the bottom rear mounting had to much play. Replacing it made a noticable difference.

Hi, thanks for reply. In fact, I havent checked the noise. Dont ask me why 😄

Not even engine mounts. Thanks for tip.

Hope you find the cause. Just throwing idea's and past experience at your problem Martin. 👍

Others may be able to offer other advise and have a lot more detailed knowledge than I do.

So I have some news about behaviour. No strange noise. At least inside a cabine I cant hear anything strange.

And also I have discovered if you I accelerate to 1800rpms wjth 6th and I am pressing the pedal I can feel the vibration. But if I release the pedal and keep the contact on pedal, there is no vibration. It is interesting but I have no clue what could be.

Ok Martin, so you can't hear anything unusual whilst your driving the vehicle.

Could you explain a little more clearly on the vibrations your able to feel? Which pedal and at what point does the vibrating deminish? Would also be useful, esopecially to others here, if you can confirm the distance covered by the vehicle. I note you state 430t km would that 430,000 Km? If so I think that equals around 270,000 miles which I would consider to be high mileage even on a Toyota 2ltr D4D engine/gearbox.

I can feel the vibration on acc pedal and volant if pedal is pressed. The strongest vibration comes in range 1600-1800rpms. But they stay also in higher values.

I confirm the mileage 270 000 miles 🙂

I know Toyota engines have a reputation for clocking up very high mileage when compared with some other makers. At 270k and 15 yrs old though things are going to have started to wear and deteriorate even on a Toyota

Best to start with the less expensive and more easily tackled items that could be causing your vibration. Would suggest you inspect the state of the engine mountings/holders to begin with as the other possible causes are likly to be either clutch or grearbox related and more expensive and difficult to rectify.

Take a look at the engine when it's running to see if there's any sign of excess or unusual movement. With the engine turned off for safety take hold of the engine and push/pull the top of the engine backwards and forwards, there shouldn't be a lot of movement visible. Locate the engine mounts/holders usually on the gearbox casing, the timing chain cover and then a third which may be either at the front or at the rear of the engine. Look for signs of the rubber perishing/spitting and excessive movement.

My inclination is that it's more likely to the be the front or rear mount as they absorb the torsional movements that cause vibrations like you descibe. Would be a lot easier if you have someone on hand to move the engine while your underneath and can watch from close up and don't forget if your underneath jack and support the car safely.

It may be worthwhile if you can get access to a code reader you run a scan an check for any codes that may have been generated by the ecu!
