Dear Sir,

Curious things happen to me with my 2015 Toyota Auris 1.2 petrol car.

Left the car out for 8 days in icy Scottish condition. Tried to start the car. First couple times turning the ignition key, heard no engine turn over. Left for a minute or so, then started fine!

Make me wonder if the engine management system shuts down completely when 12v Battery level is low and take a minute or so to fire up??

Thank you for any explanation.

Julian

Engine will try to start, even if Battery is 11.2V.

Did the car struggle to start, or started fine?

Was it clicking when you tried to start it first few times, or just no sound at all? Were the dash lights turning on normally when it failed to start?

Dash light came on. Front light came on.

1st couple times turning the key. No egine sound at all. I think there was no clicking either.

Waited couple minutes. Engine started easily with 1st turn of the key .

Is that the original Battery from new?. Did you check and clean the Battery connections and retighten. A Battery at 7+ years could be coming up to the end of it’s useful life, and freezing temperatures will affect its performance. An older battery which would start your car in summer could fail in freezing temperatures. They don’t like the cold 🥶.

Quick follow up question. Do 2015 Auris radio require a code if I disconnect/change the Battery myself?

Thank you.

On further review. I probably did not fully engage the clutch to activate the clutch ignition switch!

Appreciate all the replies.
