Any acceptable way to pump up the 1.0 engine ?

I believe Aygo it’s not the most suitable car for these needs. There are literally other Toyota models available with the same fuel consumption from 1.5 or 1.8 engines, these are better cars by all means and for similar money if you buy used. Except age, size or insurance reasons I don’t really see how Aygo can be as competitive option against Yaris or Corolla hybrid. Just my thoughts. I wouldn’t mind buying an Aygo for my daughter and having fun with it once in a while but as my own car especially to travel daily,  no way.

I did have an Aygo as a courtesy car for a few hours when my RAV4 was in for a software update.

I only did a few miles, but it wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding 😃

It's pretty gutless, but it also weighs very little so that thing will launch from a standstill like nobody's business :naughty:

It's very much what track people call a momentum car - It doesn't have a strong pull, but will carry speed round corners better than a lot of other cars, which makes it hilarious fun on twisty country roads

The Mk4 feels very very heavy by comparison, but the wider stance and stiffer chassis help retain some agility at least. I think the extra height of the aygox will blunt its agility and give it the wallowy feeling the Mk1 and Mk2, had unless they've made it uncomfortably stiff.

Not the most suitable car for these needs...  Where did you get that ?
I drive alone 90 percent of the time. The other 10 percent with two people. The back seats : toyota could have them if they offered me a floor in the back (van model) and a discount.
I am thinking the car will make around 4 to 5000 miles a year. Without me finding any extra jobs for it to do and without travels I could (!) make with it.
I often do town driving, short rides, engine not even getting warm.
The rest value of an Aygo here is higher than any other Toyota.
IMHO the Aygo X is almost perfect for my needs.
I want it a bit more powerful and silent but can't have it all.

1.5 and 1.8 engines that consume the same...
Arrrghhh... You will really get me going !  😁
What's the use of spending an other 10.000 euro to have a 1500 or 1800 cc car with same usage. The logic doesn't really make me happy. The extra cost is simply too high.

1500 non hybrid : I don't want any direct injected turbo cars any more. Maybe the Toyota product is the only one in the world that won't have any problems too fast but I don't want to be a guinee pig.
Turbo and direct injection even made Honda struggle to get the engine decent. Honda is IMHO same quality as Toyota.
All other brands struggled with this concept.
I know the 1000 cc Daihatsu engine in aygo can get up to 300.000 miles. I want to see the 1500 three cyl do it before I believe it.

1500 or 1800 Hybrid : i don't want to pay so much extra for an other technology if the aygo X can give me the same consumption.
Knowing that batteries will cost a lot, transformers too, etc...  And there is simply a lot more on the car that can go wrong.

The expected repair cost over many years (hybrid Battery etc) a lot higher.
I don't like to drive CVT or ECVT. It seems the newer system is better than the old one but I hated the old one too much, so I don't want the new.

Aygo X new compared to Corolla second hand.
That is the Apple and pears comparison I don't want to consider.
My dealer HAD a 3 year old corolla with 50.000 miles on it for the same price as a brand new but higher spec Aygo X.

The choice : I didn't think long about it.
I want the new car.

Like one of my friends described the type of buyer : doesn't want any other behind to have been sitting in the car (unless the factory guys and transport briefly).

The most expensive car I drive sometimes is a BMW X5 hybrid with 4200 cc engine.
I DO feel the difference in cars when i come to my Aygo but I got used to the last one and I wouldn't want to pay the petrol and tax bill, repairs, maintenance, buying cost on the BMW.
The BMW doesn't drive 6 times better but costs 6 times more.
Really... if i buy with my own money as a normal citizen, I want value for money.
The Aygo X new. Ten years warranty and assistance, no hastle design.
A bit slow .. .ok. Can't change it, I fear. Or not now anyway.

Aygo against Yaris and competition.
There is no competition. You buy what you like. I buy what I like.
The Yaris : I have always thought about it as a skoda fabia : My God, poor thing, you are ugly !
The last model now is better but still not for me. Cause I don't want to pay for hybrid now and I don't want the 1500 cc threecylinder.

Took me 6 months to get used to the Aygo. I got used to it ...
It 'll have to do.
So no Aygo X for MY daughter. I don't have a daughter. I live single. And that is why the Aygo X can do almost all I want it to do.
Nice 9" stereo, heated seats, a lot of safety stuff, low insurance, petrol consumption, and so on. For half the price of a less spec Corolla.

Basically it all comes down to everybody having their own demands of a car and buying what they want, not necessarily what others want.
And pity there is probably not one car that can be 100 percent right.

You see: people even buy Renaults and Jaguars...   How crazy do you have to be.
Each to his own. Good for economics we all don't drive a Yaris or a Corolla and nothing wrong with that.
Can't think of East Germans all buying Wartburgs as being happy people about that.

Given how many posts there've been in the Yaris forum about 12v issues I think the Aygo would e less problematic for low usage and short journeys!

Generally,

- turbo engines with start stop are a problem in multiple cold / short runs

- downsized high powered engines are a problem on short drives

- maintenance being stretched by factories and owners create problems for these engines

- three cilinder engines stress their internal parts more. The high powered engines are more likely to see failures...
- Oil dillution (petrol mixing with oil) is often seen in these high powered engines

- Short drives give internal charcoaling which leads to bad running and expensive maintenance (walnut blasting) or repairs (EGR, ...)

Sometimes it's nice to be able to do the short trips without worrying too much.
It's never ideal but some engines (non turbo, low powered) can handle it better than others (turbo, high power)

Well, then the Aygo fits the bill the best for you.
I understood from previous posts of yours that you ve been inclined to Auris/Corolla hybrid too, because prices of used Corolla hybrid are equal to new Aygo. If I remember correctly we had been discussing also motorway driving too. But if you don’t like hybrids that’s ok, nothing wrong with Aygo., but honestly there is no point of looking for extra power. The only thing that can make a difference in how Aygo perform and react to driver accelerator input is the quality of the petrol. No garage has exact same petrol even though they belong to the same company. When you find the petrol station that sells the best petrol for your car stick with them and you can also try E5 or E0 instead of E10, it does make a difference in engine noise, performance, fuel consumption., more noticeable with small engines.
Enjoy your new car when arrives. 🚙👍

Back in the day, the original Aygo and it's mates were basic, simple, cheap cars so any added power / complexity just destroys what these little cars are all about. Unfortunately rules and regulations have spoilt the original idea a little over time, hence the the new Aygo X is a bloated tech fest and more expensive as a result. Thankfully Toyota at least are building it where others have bottled out. The end of the decade is fast approaching, so time will tell if these little cars have another stay of execution, I certainly hope so!

Personally would have gone for a MK3 Yaris 1.5 if the Aygo was not quite fast enough for your needs, good build and no turbo needed.

The main thing is the Aygo suits the OP overall. I find the Aygo really neat and cute, a 69 plate near me, haven't driven one. The aygo X looks nice.

It's relative to individual budget and needs. My MK3 1.5 hybrid isn't powerful enough for me, doesn't handle well enough and makes too much engine noise for medium-long distance driving. A week long trip to North Wales in may this year had me working quite hard for most of the 900 miles covered. The MK4 have sorted that out a lot I heard.

I think you will like it :naughty:

The car does have a bunch of really stupid design choices, but I don't mind because you can tell the majority of the money went into the drivetrain and chassis which, IMHO, is where it should go, and not e.g. soft touch plastics :whistling1:

Was meaning the non Hybrid version manual 1.5 MK3 Yaris even if the handling is rather bland.

Well, anyway... My AygoX came in today at the dealer's.  A few weeks (2) before it was expected but that seems to be normal here for the X.

I will start driving it next week. That makes the car a 2023. Better for rest value.
