Brake Hold

Ahahahaaaa that was a game I used to play in my manual cars - Because I was handbrake+neutral, when it was time to move I could switch to first with no visible change behind and very slowly creep off to see how far I could get before the person behind me noticed

It was a bit disconcerting how often I could pull it off, although I'd only usually manage 2-3 car lengths, but I once got all the way through the lights just as they changed before the one behind me even noticed

Ok , a confession to another game like that.

When waiting at traffic lights, or a level crossing is maybe best.

I looked in the mirror and saw the driver behind engrossed with their phone,or putting a scrunchie in,or applying lip gloss or eyebrow shaping.

Sometimes women drivers would do this too,a blip on the accelerator would have them look up all startled,as though a spaceship had just landed in front of them.

This could be repeated endless times, with the same result, there's no sense where there is no reason.

Sorry to say, I feel no guilt over this,if you are driving then it needs full attention, not treating the safety of others as a distraction from selfish indulgence.

But at the same time,it is funny looking at the sheer panic in their eyes when they know that they are in the wrong.

Maybe one in a hundred will learn to look at the road in front, instead of pratting about.

I need to check but fairly sure the Yaris Cross pulls against the footbrake. It certainly does in my gen. 3 Yaris (I can make the brakes squeak by slightly releasing them from stationary).

I haven't noticed hill-start assist working without HOLD mode active on the Cross. A couple of times I have had the car roll backwards when starting off on even a slight incline. I'm extremely sensitive to it doing it. Maybe the technique to get it to hold is slightly different than mine?

All cars will pull against the foot brake and the Yaris Mk4s are no different, but once you come to a complete stop with the Brake Hold on, it activates and stops trying to move the car until you press the accelerator again or engage the EPB (At which point it will stop the Brake Hold to engage the EPB, and the car will immediately lurch as it starts pulling against the EPB)

Forgive me father, for I have sinned:

When I've had someone close up behind me at traffic lights, who's previously been trying to get inside my boot in traffic, I've been known to, briefly, select reverse to give them a flash of my reversing lights before pulling away. They seem to back away after that.

I quite like the American way ... a big gun.

But although a good immediate solution it doesn't seem to make any difference in the long term 🤔 . I think it's the 80/20 problem - 80% have no brains to speak of.

Yaris Mk 3 does not pull against the footbrake when stationary.  If you look at the power display you can see that power to the motor is cut off after about a second when stationary and only comes back when you lift your foot off the brake.  It does pull against the handbrake though. There is no brake hold function on the Mk 3, only hill start and no EPB.
