Android Auto Bluetooth Connection

I have a Huawei mobile and it will link to my Yaris Cross Smart Connect using bluetooth

I canink to Smart Connect and Android Auto by wire but not BT.  I think I saw in the manual that some mobile cannot use AA-BT.

When I look for a BT link the phone is not shown.

Has anyone else failed to get a phone AA BT link?

Lots of potential issues especially with Huawei see HERE nor does it appear Toyota have tested any Huawei phones for compatibility on the TAS600 Smart connect unit see HERE

Might seem like a stupid question but I take it that you have the latest version of the Android Auto app installed on your phone? (some of the older versions do not support connection via BT)

Also, open up the AA app on your phone, scroll down to "Wireless Android Auto" and make sure the switch is "on"...

AFAIK I have upto date Android 9.

I will look at the Wireless AA as you suggest.

Devon, thanks for that, as the handbook hints it may not work.

I already changed to this phone as my previous would not connect to my hearing aids.

PS, I have found an app AAWireless, this includes the information in Devon's article.  I shall give it a try next time we get the car out.

Android Auto is not designed to work with BT only. It's either cable or WiFi (AAWireless).

BT is only used as a quick connect tool, the main data is not transfered over it since it simply doesn't have the bandwidth.

But you can use BT for just music playback without android auto.

Or do you want to connect with bluetooth and have the android auto interface on your phone screen?

My reference to AA and BT was my error.

I thought AA wireless was BT not WiFi.  It seems this phone does not have that facility.  I did find an AA WiFi dongle but at £89.50 it is a bit expensive just to avoid the need to plug my phone in.

At least my phone is also charged when plugged in.

Is it not your Cross media unit that “doesn’t have this facility”…. ?
