Auris Exhaust Replacement

Hi Forum

Just had an MOT on the car, it passed but I do have an advisory on the Exhaust

The MOT tester advised that there was a minor leak but the corrosion was inbetween the back in middle sections.

He advised that I would probably need to replace both bits

Does anyone have some general advice on replacing the back box and middle sections - Do I go Stainless Steel from someone or just a generic replacement from a "Kwik Fit Type" High Street Garage

My Auris has done 183,000 miles on an '08 plate - Engine 2.0 D4D

Any guidance would be appreciated

Hi Stuart,

I had to make the same choice a good few years ago when I had to decide if it was worth changing the boxes or just going for a new exhaust.

I phoned around a few places to get an idea of cost for just new boxes or a complete exhaust. I also had to consider how long I was looking to keep the car. At the time I decided that I would keep it and went for a new exhaust but went for a very competitive priced one. I suppose it still depends on how the costs compare.

Hope this will help you decide.🤔

Hi,

here it’s your car exhaust system parts and numbers. You can see what can and need to change. As been mentioned depending on what your plans are about the car. It might worth to check for original parts prices first to have a base for comparison.
Good luck

at that age and mileage do what I did a few years ago - go get it repaired (welded) at a decent place instead. It cost me £50 and never gave further trouble

I can't remember where my exhaust rotted through - but no where could source a replacement it was a Toyota only part and they wanted £1800 for a whole section (not complete exhaust, but a certain section - I can't remember now)

Thanks to all that have left feedback so far

For completeness on this thread i'm going to get three prices - "Off the shelf" from an Autocentre; CAT-Back Stainless Steel; Welded Repair (If possible)

1. Off the Shelf - Formula One Autocentre (Kwik Fit Equivalent)

Manufacturer: TI Bainbridge (2 Year Guarantee)

Sections: Back Box and Middle Box Sections

Cost: £217 fully fitted inc VAT

2. CAT-Back Stainless Steel Exhaust

Have contacted a few people to try and get a rough price

3. Welded Repair

when time allows (after Xmas & New year) i'll contact an Automotive Welder and see what's possible for a welded repair

3. Welded Repair

A welded repair will be "Approx £40" - This is obviously subject to the welders taking a look

So, for me it looks like Welded Repair first (if do-able) - If not then it looks like like I'll be putting an aftermarket standard exhaust as I can't see ill be keeping the Auris for 3+ more years
