Import duty costs post-Brexit for Amayama parts??

Hello

I've just joined the Club - looks a great resource as I seek maintain my small fleet of Camrys.

I am considering buying parts from Amayama for cambelt, water pump & tensioner changes..

Does anyone know how much import duty and VAT are now payable on imported parts from Japan or UAE since we left the EU?

Amayama parts claim to be genuine (other users seem to agree that their parts are truly genuine Toyota), and if so are significantly cheaper than the main stealers!

Thank you

Is it not possible to get those parts here?

I bought from them about ten years ago.  The part was a genuine Toyota part, I had to pay import tax on it but, it was still cheaper that I could buy it for here.

Hi Stivino,

Yes parts are all available from Toyota UK dealers, but after getting various quotes, the best price I can achieve is £550.

Amayama quote £270 inc shipping ie, roughly half that price, hence the attraction, as they DO seem to be GENUINE Toyota parts

I'm therefore trying to establish how much import duty & tax I need to pay on top of this (now we are out of the EU).

If the margins become minimal I will probably bite the bullet and buy from my best Toyota UK dealer price

I can't remember how much it was but, it did work out a good bit cheaper than buying it here.

It was the same heat shield as in this topic.

I've just read a post from 1 year ago on the Lexus Owners Club Forum that claims there is no import duty to pay for  car parts from Japan - one possible caveat in that it may only apply to orders less than £150!!

Can anyone confirm if this is really the case -  no import duty seems 'too good to be true'!!!

It is apparently based on the attached Trade Agreement.

I posted this question by mistake in the 'New Members' section, so thought I should repost it somewhere more appropriate......

I've answered my own question...i.e Amayama vs Toyota UK parts prices comparison

After getting quotes from various Toyota dealers in the UK for my cambelt change, I found some parts were only slightly more expensive than Amayama. However, others were massively cheaper, especially idler pulleys and tensioners eg £120 Toyota vs £28 Amayama. I therefore bit the bullet on the potential shipping and customs costs and gave Amayama a try.

My order was placed on January 2nd, with some parts coming from Japan and some from UAE. The Amayama website is great and couldn't be easier to identify and order parts. The communication and tracking is also very clear and I can't fault their service in any way! The Japan parts arrived on Jan 13th and were free of customs duty, but delivery was very expensive and added 80% to the cost of the items.

The UAE parts are being delivered by Parcelforce tomorrow. Delivery added 10% to the price, and customs/VAT another 30%.

Despite these additional costs. the total parts bill inc all VAT/duties was 55% of the cost of the same UK sourced parts and has saved me £220.  I'd certainly do it again, but if you decide to try it, MAKE SURE the cost differential between Toyota UK and Amayama base prices makes it worthwhile. For instance, one of the items I bought was a water pump, which was £50 cheaper than Toyota, but eventually worked out only £14 cheaper. However, idlers and tensioner savings were enormous.

So I hope this helps those of you considering ordering from Amayama!

What annoyed me was that, when the heat shield arrived, on the same sticker as the part number it said, Made in the U.K.

So, the part was made in Britain, shipped to wherever, then sent back to me and was still much cheaper that I could buy it here, madness.
