Fuel Consumption data on a 2022 Yaris Cross Dynamic multimedia screen,

I recently received delivery of the above vehicle and I have a couple of questions about fuel consumption data after delivery of the vehicle(see attached photo of screen)

1. what does the  green line "10.1 represent and what is meant by the figures 10.1 and (15/10) below the line in the  history section?

2, In my wife's Yaris Y20 I can record a succession of historical consumption values on the multimedia screen simply by touching the update symbol which moves the current values into a historical record section on the screen. Can I do this on the screen of my 2022 Yaris Cross Dynamic multimedia screen?

You’ll have to do a bit better with the photo Bob.  It looks like you’ve got lard on the lens!

Sorry Anchorman but if you click on it you should be able to open it up in a slightly larger/clearer picture.

Sorry, even zoomed in it's unreadable - Too much motion blur to see anything clearly!

I'd guess the green line is some sort of average, maybe the current average, or something like that.

My Mk4 Yaris has a similar historical record where you hit Update, but it looks like you have the new Smart Connect headunit - I assume it has something similar but it'll be in a different place as they moved everything around (I really hate that; Just means you have to re-learn yet another interface for no good reason!)

Just have a play about with it, that's how I learned most of the functions in my Mk4.

The screen is from the Smart Connect head unit on a Yaris Cross

Reading left to right the columns represent

  Current mph for this trip

Current average mph since last reset

Historic mph before last reset. Also shown as green baseline

The reset seems to occur whenever the 12v Battery is disconnected, in my case when the annual hybrid Battery test was conducted during servicing.

The figures 15/10 represent a date, in this case 15 October.

Thanks for you reply Cyker. Definitely not the current average which is shown on the screen as "40 something" - very low but I expect the delivery driver was not driving too efficiently for 250 or so miles. To me it looks like there was an average value of about 10.1 on 15th October, possibly when the dealership or manufacturer was running some tests, but I simply do not know. I have asked the sales adviser at the dealership I bought the car from but he has not answered. Anyway, I agree with you they keep adding and moving things around making things unnecessarily confusing and often over-complicated not to mention potentially dangerously distractive.

Thanks for your reply RedToyota. Surely we do not have to disconnect the 12 volt Battery to get a reset and entry into the historic data. I did come to the conclusion that 15/10 was probably a date.

Bobhos,

Sorry I do not know the answer to your question. Someone else might have more detailed information.

My current average (centre column) was recorded until the first service. After that the current average reverted to zero but the historic data appeared. I was content that the system kept a historic record as previous cars just reset to zero.

Thanks RedToyota. I need to investigate further but not tonight - just had a couple of drams prior to the old clock chiming 12 signalling my four score years birthday. Probably won't manage tomorrow either as the family seem to be planning something like a bungee jump from a 300 foot crane or abseiling down the black face of Lochnagar.

Hmmm! probably have another look next day if I am still here.

By the way I found the historical and present consumption data on my wife's 2020 Yaris multimedia very useful, I update/reset the screen every fuel refill and it showed previous 7 0r so days daily average figures alongside current averages. It is an extremely useful tool. Haven't had the Cross long (few days) but I seem to recall seeing a rest function somewhere on the driver's information screen.

Sorry I should have said previous 7 or so historical average figures and not "7 or so daily average figures". Hmmm! these drams are stronger than I thought they would be,

Final thought - there is a cancel icon on the fuel consumption screen, it may instigate a reset function and insert the current average data into the historical section but I have been reluctant to select it in case, as the name suggests, it simply eradicates the data .

Anchorman makes a very good point in terms of the photo you have taken.  However, I’ve taken a few photographs for the forum and they always seem to be slightly out of focus.  I use an i-phone or iPad and maybe it’s better to use an android version.

Thanks Jimota. I took the photo (hurriedly) with an android camera but I can use a digital camera later. I have described the data on the picture, however, so perhaps that will suffice meantime.

If there will be more data(more trips) it will get more understandable.

Since I received the car 5 days ago I have made several trips but, apart from the average consumption figure dropping slightly (lot of time with car statonery) the same figures appear on the screen under "current" and "history". As I said earlier I am reluctant to select the cancel icon until I fully understand the data presentation process.

I see that you have a Cross. Do you have multiple consumption figures showing in the history section of the screen?

Without checking my car it requires the Reset button to be pressed to clear the Total Average or Trip Average on the speedo display.  This will reset the Smart Connect data (I was told)

As I don't want to reset my speedo display, I have not tried this.

Thanks Roy124. That is the position I am in as well - reluctant to press the reset. When you were told that pressing the reset the Smart Connect data would reset as well did this mean that data in the "current" section would show in the "history" section?

Bob, not sure, and to be honest not really interested. I leave the  average running on the dash and as the winter continues I try and stop the average dropping on each journey.  I am down to 61.1 and losing 0.1 every few days.

I shall reset after the years use. Hopefully as it climbs back towards 65.

Thanks for the reply Roy. Glad to hear that the Cross can achieve 65mpg in warm weather. Mine is only showing about 40mpg but I feel that is probably due to delivery driving style from Carlisle to Aberdeen and whatever they were doing with the car on 15th October. The awd version may have a slightly lower mpg due to the weight of rear electric motor, etc.

neighbour is getting 70 out of her AWD.  I’m mid 50s but it’s only done 40 miles so I expect that.

Wow!! Wouldn't have expected that. It all depends on how she is measuring it. If it is best shortish journey, predominantly downhill, etc then 70 is not surprising. On my wife's 2020 Yaris I can get about 80mpg on a predominantly downhill 5 mile trip to the town centre. For the return journey, however it is generally around 40 or so. (If my wife is driving you can reduce these figures by at least 10. Consumption monitoring on her Yaris is easy and very informative. I generally update the data on the multimedia screen every time I refuel (by near enough the same amount of every time) and I have found that the consumption figures for each record are near enough the same unless trips are significantly different like longish trips at 70mph, etc. Best figure over the last 7 refuels was just under 60 but generally the figure is between 50 and 55. I will be trying to monitor consumption on the Cross in a similar way once I have determined how to regularly update the MyT multimedia monitor (haven't had time to look into it properly yet). I did not expect that the Cross would be significantly different to my wife's Yaris.

I take it you haven't got your Excel Cross yet? I have only had my Dynamic Cross a few days and, unfortunately missed the bad winter weather which would have let me put it through it's paces. We had a couple of extremely frosty nights however and I got up very early before the frost vanished to test the car. I tested the Cross from stationery on reasonably steep incline and it performed the way I expected - no problem. I also tested my wife's 2wd Yaris at the same time and it had wheel slip but did manage to pull away. I expect that we will have some snow, etc on the tail end of the weather bomb which hit America so I am looking forward to testing the Cross then. I fully expect that the slippery incline tests from stationery will be ok. I also expect that driving generally in snow will also be ok by driving carefully with, or without, "Snow" function selected. Unfortunately, the Cross comes with summer tyres. I think snow performance could be enhanced with all-season or, better still, winter tyres. The tyres that are fitted will suffice (meantime anyway). My main reason for upgrading to the Cross was to have a car that my wife could drive in slippery conditions and not have the fear of being stuck on an incline, etc.

Sorry Anchorman - too early in the morning I see that you do have a Yaris Cross now, I thought you were expecting it in Spring or later.

Concur with mid-50s for the last 7 days on an Excel. Mostly short journeys but with one return motorway trip.

Managed to put the awd cross through its paces again today and it performed well as I had expected. Unfortunately still not deep snow but I managed to try it on fairly steep inclines with hard ice and snow (2 to 3 inches). Absolutely no problem pulling away, I would still have liked to have tried it with more snow (wet and dry) but that will probably have to wait till next winter. Also managed to gauge its performance driving along (gritted) country roads which still had a fair amount of snow/slush/ice etc. Handled well and absolutely no problem whether in "snow" or "normal" mode. Obviously the car drives in 2 wheel drive when you are moving and the "snow" mode just helps to compensate for bad winter driving practices by dampening throttle control, etc. 4 wheel drive really only happens in start off and very slow speed. Anyway, I am glad I have had the opportunity to try it in some form of winter conditions and I am quite pleased with the results. Once again I also tried my wife's 2wd Yaris at the same time and it did not perform as well starting on fairly steep inclines. By the way, both cars only have summer grade tyres.

I’m sure you must be wrong Robert 😉.  The cynical experts on here argue that a 5HP motor has been proven by a Suzuki dealer to be an utter waste of money and the FWD would be just as capable!

Personally I couldn’t give a flying you know what about what the “think they know”, I’m quite happy that I’ve got the AWD and that I’ll get home when they won’t.  There’s big hills and a healthy amount of snow here most winters.   These daft videos of trying to get one up a rocky mountain track make no sense to me, that will never happen to mine.  The utility companies have LRs and Unimogs for that kind of thing.  Keep us updated of events 👍
