Hi

Recently My display has stopped showing the MPG & Average MPH just wondering where the sensor that provides this information would be located not yet disconnected and reconnected the Battery but want to know where this sensor is in case disconnecting the Battery and reconnecting doesn't solve the issue.

All help appreciated

Hi,

Not aware it has its own a sensor as such, it does have input from the speed sensor and other data from the ECU.

Assume your speedo etc are all working normally ?

When you say its not displaying, do you mean just the actual values like 42  are missing or totally incorrect or the whole display line is blank ?

If you have been working on the wiring around the radio, worth checking all its connectors are sound  as well as disconnecting the Battery for a while.

Okay

speedo and cluster everything is fine

No the whole line has stopped displaying still get time and outside temperature but the below line is blank

I have put in a aftermarket stereo months ago but everything was still working after so unsure what could have gone wrong I'll probably take it into my local garage for some other work and get them to try diagnose but just wondered if there was any other possible fix's

disconnected the Battery last night and still didn't solve the problem so reached a dead end now

We have the exact same car, same age, 140,000 miles.

A few years ago, I noticed that at least one, thin, horizontal line of display resolution of the radio/clock/mpg screen had completely dissappeared.  It has never come back, but this display is still legible, even without it.

I wonder if yours is just a more advanced, but similar, fault?  I think that, when stripped down, the connection points to the LCD glass are carbon-loaded foam/plastic, which probably age eventually, they're often simply a pressure connection - no solder, and quite precise/delicate.  Ageing of this foam would cause the contacts (which are usually the display's only electrical connections), to fail.  Where's @Mooly for a better explanation, when you need him?

If you were to completely dissassemble the display, then you might fix this fault, but it is a bit jewellery-like at that level, and from what I've found on other items, you could make it worse.  Just so you're aware!  Sometimes, assembling the display with a thin, carefully-shaped piece of paper, fitted so as to bolster the foam, can get the connection working again.  But this can be extremely fiddly and experimental.

I have not stripped this display on our car, so this is just an educated guess.

Hopefully I have misunderstood the extent of the problem and it's something else at fault.
