Oil recommendation for Verso

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hello,

I have a 64 plate Toyota Verso 7str (Registered between Sep 2014 & Mar 2015). I am getting an oil change done. I live in London, England so we have 9 months of single digit weather and 3 months of summer (temp can reach 35 Celsius).

Car specs: | Toyota Verso 1.6L Petrol | 64 plate | 7 seater |

I am confused as to what oil is suitable for my car? I get conflicting opinions about the below:

Shell Helix Ultra SN Engine Oil - 0W-20 - 5Ltr | Car Parts 4 Less

Shell Helix Ultra Professional AS-L Engine Oil - 0W-20 - 5Ltr | Car Parts 4 Less

I would think that SN is better or I am mistaken?

In the past 5w-30 would be recommended but I think lately Toyota suggests we use 0W-20, is my understanding right?

Toyota's preferred oil will be the 0W-20 to API SL, SM or SN standard. Of these, SN is the newer standard, although there is now an SP standard.

Toyota only recommend the spec of oil, rather than brand.

Some members have been using Petronas Syntium 7000 0W-20 without issue - 5 litres currently around £43 on Amazon.

Thank you so much Frostyballs. I ordered Shell Helix SN Ultra 0W-20 but now have received Shell Helix SP 0W-20 https://www.shell-livedocs.com/data/published/en/8b83d01a-daee-45ea-8a1f-2ca4b473a3c4.pdf  (they may have sent in error as SP costs more than SN)

Surprisingly Shell UK does not advertise SP on their website but Shell Australia does.

I assume this is still ok? If at all, should be better than SN?

SP is the latest API spec and will be fine.
