My Cars Not Well...

Had to drive through a rather large puddle yesterday and ever since then,

my Battery has stopped charging. :(

This leads me to think that my alternator got soaked.

My ignition lights are also staying on when the car's running.

Any ideas guys? I need to fix it asap

Oh and to add insult to injury, someone reversed into my drivers side wing yesterday... man i'm glad that day is over.

 Yeah sounds like the alternator. Whip it off and run down to your local auto electrician/lucas. They might be able to fix it. Be a lot cheaper than buying a new one.

Good luck.

Hold on a minute! Before you do any major surgery check the connectors on the alternator, you might have got water in there and that could cause problems. I had an old vauxhall once that stopped every time I went through a puddle cos I got water in the connector for the fuel pump. In any case I would give it a chance to dry out on its own first.

Im going to take it up to my mates garage and have a look for myself

Your probably right about the plug being full of water. Worth a try anyway!

Cheers.

WOW that happened to me too i was stuck in dover for TWO DAYS!!

My alternator was messed up because of it i had it replaced good as new , but not only that it stopped the alarm from working damn alarm was going off at 2am in the morning and it its affecting the starting of the car because the imbolizer keeps staying on.

So we are in the same boat

p.s the alarm is coming out tomorrow and a brand new imb is being fitted.

So what was the problem with yours mate? did you get it fixed yet?

It did get fixed but the car was not running correctly afterwards because of the Battery being dead and the alarm it was affecting the whole car it was slow and laggy just downright made me feel depressed so i reset the ecu when i got back and the car just took off ;)

The problem im having is the alarm as it keeps going off and the imobolizer wont turn off sometimes

edit : ive never seen the car act so badly when it happened , the power steering didnt work , the abs stopped working alarm wouldnt turn off it was TERRIBLE, the alternator cost me £100 plus fitting :(

I think there is a place up the bellshill industrial estate that will recon you alternator while you wait then refit it for you, or they possibly supply second hand refurbed ones cheap fitted. Cant quite remember but its near the plumbers merchants in there.
