Can anyone tell me how to stop the multi media display on my new 2022 Yaris Cross dimming after dark?

Why would you want to, it's a safety feature so it's not a bright light distraction on the dash while driving at night.

At 1:00 in the video you can see "Day Mode" if you turn this off in theory the brightness should stay the same night and day but as the member above says why would you want to do this it'll be so distracting  like someone shining a torch in your face while you are driving at night.

As per Max_Headroom you can change the brightness of the night time mode. Sorry but as Wildtapholer says you cannot turn it off.

Multimedia manual, page 17,  Goto settings (the gear wheel, top left of screen), System, Display and then set brightness.  The system switches between modes depending on the light level.

Christoper  wants to "stop the multi media display on my new 2022 Yaris Cross dimming after dark" so surely if you turn day mode off then set the night time brightness  it will stay at that brightness all the time.

Max, an interesting approach. Yes it would work but the map will be darkish blues and black road.  Not sure I could live with that 🤔

I know my system is older but when I turn it off it stays on the bright green and blue daytime colours at night but as said earlier its way too bright to be left like that all the time.

That's interesting. I don't have the 'Day Mode' option - just the 'Screen Off' one!

I should've been clearer - I don't want full brightness, but as it appears at present, the night screen is so dim that it makes it almost illegible.

Christopher,

Apologies as I was talking about multimedia units on another thread and forgot to ask the obvious question - What sorry of media unit do you have  a 9" Smart Connect unit with no round buttons/ knobs or the 8" unit that has the knobs?

My instructions above are for the 9" version which has 2 separate light settings for day and night driving.

My screen dimmes for night driving and if you go under a bridge or just trees on both sides of the road.

It also a 8 inch model

You can adjust contrast and brightness but my book says!! Models with navigation only

Not avaible if Apple carplay or Android connected.

Function Not avaible in some countries.

I am in the UK on 70 plate Yaris

Entirely agree.  Anything that eases your night vision is a good thing.

Yes it’s quite sensitive and I suppose it has to be. Any shadows on the road or dull day and headlights automatically come on, but it has to be for entering a tunnel. When mine comes on I just turn it off on the stalk.

As soon as you turn your lights on, the car knows it's dark and dims the multi media system for safety, if you need to watch it pull up in a car park and turn your lights off.

With Smart Connect and Apple CarPlay the display does still change mode and brightness. I was impressed this still works, the car must be informing the phone which colour theme to use.

From the Aygo X 9inch system , my experience is  : you can choose daytime colours all the time. Then it doesn't go to dark maps and black roads (I hate this one too).
In the Aygo X there is a setting for daytime brightness and nighttime brightness.
Adjusting this would give satisfaction, I think..

You could try to set the sensivity of the light sensor.
In my system, 9 inch, I didn't see this possibility described in the manual.
But I did see it's possible for the 8 inch Multimedia. Should be done from the MM unit (radio).
In my case, I can only ask the garage to reprogram it.

Shouldn't take long but I guess they are maybe not going to do this for free.
