Anyone else get an invite to a BZ4X owner research session? It’s a 90 minute online discussion around your experience with the BZ4X.

Got my invite today and signed up. Not sure they know what they’ve let themselves in for.

Make yourself a prioritised check list and see how far you can get through it? 😇

unfortunately did not.

you may feel the same, but if you don't mind please adding these points to your feedback.

  • making the useable battery capacity ambiguous vs. other manufacturers. I expected to get a car with a useable Nett Battery size of 71.5kw and got one that is 64kw. Even now, as recent as this week reviewers still state a 71.5 useable nett BatteryWhat's the best family electric SUV? - YouTube
  • how the WLTP range was decided on i.e. the big gap of real world vs declared range which relatively speaking a lot bigger than to competitors. likely related to above. They probably ran the car accounting for the full 71.5kw and then restricted / reserved capacity to ensure Battery longevity etc.
  • lack of integrated route charge planning - this feature going to come, and if yes backwards compatible?

Sadly, not me. I would give them an earful about the following:

  • Cannot Load Latest Profile from Network is one crazy dumb error message that plagued me day after day. I got rid of it in the end by deleting the main driver (me) and resetting just about everything Media related, including CarPlay. I won’t be signing in or using a driver profile any more. I can’t say I’ve lost anything important – apart from those annoying messages. What kind of dumb system keeps repeating this unimportant but intrusive message every few minutes?
  • I’m an experienced driver and I often drive one handed leisurely with my hand at the top of the wheel. Every day I do this, several times without fail I get an annoying bleep and message that the driver monitor camera is unavailable and I should consult the user manual. You can turn off driver monitor alerts in settings, but these dumb warnings still persist and get in my way of enjoying the vehicle. What kind of dumb system puts a camera where you’re likely to put your hand? And why keep nagging with the same message on a journey?

Apart from that, I like the car!

I got the Toyota invite as well. Agree with your points (and those that others have made) so will bring up as many as possible. I've made my own 'problem'  list, mostly fairly minor points about improving the driving experience. Also more general points about huge limitations of the MyT app (connectivity/reliability problems, lack of useful EV data), why no user discount on the Toyota Charging Network, and very poor dealer support during the wheel bolt recall saga.

In reality, Toyota might make some upgrades to the bZ4X firmware/software but things like "I'd like a rear windscreen wiper" are only going to benefit future buyers. Toyota also must have gathered quite a bit of automated data already from bZ4X users, so maybe they already have done some overall analysis that we can't see as individual users.

Overall,  I'm pretty happy with my bZ4X experience so far.

If it’s a group session we might all have to secretly share our forum usernames during the session

@Malop can you please mention adding secondary driver to the car? In USA models you can do that using same account and Toyota website. But in UK, when I add second (using different email address) system moves the car from my wifes account to mine. And if she wants to use the car, she has to enter her password. Only one of us can customize the car for like seat, lights or other features.

It is quite annoying, if you share the car.

Very annoying and I had the same problems as you. The old link above seems to be for different/old system. I finally managed to add the secondary driver for my wife in a way that worked. After much trial and error this is what I did. In fact it is explained in the manual but just not very clear. See page 50 and onwards in bZ4X Multimedia manual.

1. Set up your wife with a separate MyToyota account (not absolutely sure that this is necessary but it is the way I got it working)

2. Take wife's phone and key into car (remove yours to avoid confusing the car)

3. Start car and link your wife's MyToyota account to a new user profile in the car. Follow what it says on Page 57 of the manual. Scan QR code with wife's phone

4. You can then link your wife's key to her profile and/or use face identification.

5. Link wife's phone using bluetooth.

6. All done and now you and your wife should be recognised separately by the car.

My wife is happy now that she is not a permanent 'guest' driver.

Many thanks for details. Two questions:

1) I did exactly same but when I setup my wifes account car is moved from my MY Toyota account to hers! Did this happend to you too? What was your solution?

2) If I try to change cars customisation, bZ4X infotainment systems asks password? How do you managed this? I entered my password then if Itry to change anything for my wife it asks my wifes password. It is like, we are in a endless loop 😂

1) Yes, I had this happen as well. I just reset everything in the car and started again. Not sure exactly what the difference was. I do remember setting up my account first as the primary driver and checking that it worked. Then I set up my wife's account as a separate user profile. I was very careful to avoid having the wrong key/phone in the car, just one set at a time.

2.) Not noticed any problem with the infotainment and password. All OK for both of us now.

Really, I just messed with it for more than an hour just trying various options until it worked. Not yet checked what happens when both sets of keys/phones are in the car at the same time. Toyota should really make it much easier than this for what is a very common set up.

Hi again, yes I followed it exactly as you explained. + as a last step I activated car  with my primary account again 🙃  yes it is pretty annoying. So it works now and recognise secondary driver from key.

To summarise:

1) set up primary account link with the first key

2) set up secondary account link with key (car should only read second key, leave the first key at home). this will move the bz4x from primary account to secondary account.

3)  Finally, go to the car with the first car key and phone, then activate it using the multimedia barcode for the primary account to move the car back to the original account.

Thank you @dab1054, toyota and my dealer couldn't help me but you!
