Looking at the Fensport site they sell a Superchips ICON thats supposed to up the standard 1.6 engine power by 8bhp. Any of you had any experience with these? Heres the blurb:

Superchips ICON Reprogrammes your engines Ignition Advance Curve giving approximately 8 BHP increase at 4,500rpm. Improved Power/Torque and throttle response From 3,000rpm, Easily fitted into wiring loom just ahead of ecu.

They are pants mate, John (AE111SR) had one on his corolla and said that it was not worth it. I never had one on my corolla as I was told it was cack

yeah, apparently John (ae111sr) put an induction kit, an exhaust and a superchip on his afe and got less than 120bhp, less than an 11 bhp increase all for approx £700. :censor:

makes you wonder if it's worth it eh? I know I'm considering my options.

As an interim upgrade for the normally aspirated engine it really wasn't worth the money - I would have been better off keeping the readies in my pocket. From 3000prm it advances the ignition by about 3 degrees and again at 4500rpm by another 2 degrees. With the Corolla it cannot control the fuelling. You can feel the difference at 3000 and 4500rpm but even with the Ramair induction filter and a Remus back box it didn't give a huge difference. If this is as far as your performance mods are going to go then it might be worth it.

I decided I wanted more and went down the transplant route and in value for money terms I'm not sure even that was the best thing to do. Yes I did get a lot more power and the car is immense fun to drive but I've ended up spending way way over what I originally budgeted for and I'm not finished yet :crybaby: At the moment it's still an unfinished project and that's 14 months after the transplant. On the other hand the car has become more than a daily driver - it's now a hobby and not only do I like to drive it, I enjoy working on it. I've had to learn lots of new stuff just to understand what's going on under the bonnet and knowledge is priceless.

But my Corolla is unique - a one of a kind - no one else has one just like mine. Though our cars are similar, Andy Knowlson's is different and that makes his unique as well. If that's what you want you had better get ready to spend. The amount of money I've spent could have bought any number of more powerful, faster cars.

I'm not trying to put you off. It's just that you need to consider if the mods you intend to make will really make the difference you want them to and do you consider it to be value for money.

Thanx John.

Im currently in uni so I cant afford to anything along the transport route at the mo. Im only looking to maximise the power from what I have really, even if that is only 125bhp. Looking at an exhaust (preferably yours!!!!), an induction kit, ecotech valve and then maybe a chip if it will give a noticable gain. Other than that, were just looking at cosmetic upgrades!

I have alot of respect for what you and Knowleson have done! Must feel great for you to pull up against standard performace cars such as MR2's, Seat Leon Cupras and Type Rs and know Ure gonna give them a serious run for there money! Bit of a Supra Vs Ferrari moment in The Fast and The Furious! Just wish I had the dosh for a transplant!

Ecotek promises much but delivers little (from what I read on here). Might be worth you using the search function on the forum and doing some reading before going down that route.

Used the search function with every spelling of Ecotek I could think of! Cant find anything on it! Will post a new topic on the bored!

U get the PM about your exhaust John?

I have an Ecotek valve on my Rolla. It doesn't make any noticable difference to BHP, but it does make a difference to my fuel consumption on long drives etc. I get an extra 50-70 miles to a tank with it set on open. If I closed it then my bank manager wouldn't be happy. Plus if you want to smarten up your engine bay then it looks pretty cool with a Piper-X breather filter on top of it.

The chip is just about the last thing to do to your car after all other mods have gone on. Do your exhaust, air filter, cams etc first. That way you'll reap the best rewards from it. There will be other companies that do chips for your car, not just Fensport. It's just a question of finding them. Try looking at the Pinned Corolla links to see if there's.
