Hi all,

Wondered if anyone had an issues in the part with 5th gear on there car. I've had my Avensis 3 years its a 2010 2.0 D4d 126K. Only recently but not all the time I've had issues putting it into 5th gear. When I sit with the engine off it feels fine but on the odd ocasions its either not gone in or not gone in fully.

Tossing up in my head whether its more the clutch on its way out rather then the gearbox. Rest of the gears fine smooth no issues. This issues doesnt haappen often either. Another thing I thought of doing was the gearbox fluid/

Any ideas even cotsly much appreciated

Maybe the 5th gear synchronization ring has gone bad...

At first I thought it was operator error but no afraid not.

4th and 6th fine rest of the gearbox is. Just trying to navigate through the possibility of the gear linkage or fluid.

If all the other gears are fine, it’s unlikely to be linkage, fluid, or the clutch.

So, it could be that the synchro cone is worn. But, it’s unusual for a 5th gear cone to wear.  Usually 2nd or 3rd gear cones go first because they are used the most.

To be fair just been out for a drive in it. And it ran really well. Was a bit notchy but it was cold. Heated up to it where I went was fine.

May still get the fluid done just to get the cheapest thing out of the way. I agree though, had a gearbox go on me years ago and 2nd is normally the first to take a hit. Have seen more topics on the t25 having issues in fifth.

and again the common thing all instances is me. Will see. That’s for the advice. If it really goes !Removed! up I’ll put something here!
