Fitting a dash cam

I was momentarily tempted to have the front and rear dash cam when I ordered my Yaris cross but the salesperson didn’t know if it had parking mode or how long it recorded after the car was parked, I decided not to as I have a blackvue front and rear set up which is powered by a Battery which is hardwired to the car, has anyone fitted a camera to their cars and if so , where is the fuse box located..?

There have been several threads on dash cams and I seem to recall at least one set of pictures. A quick search might help you find them.

The Nextbase camera / cameras Toyota dealers offer do have a parking mode powered by a small user removable / replaceable rechargeable Battery pack that is located in the front dash cam base.

The parking mode feature is normally turned off as default & requires the user to activate it on the camera via the app.

For the Toyota / Nextbase cameras here's the link to how it operates.

I have the same set up as you describe Alan. Front and rear Blackvue powered by a rechargeable Battery pack hard wired to the fuse interior box (12v accessory socket fuse) , an ignition switched supply. Battery under the front passenger seat. It is capable of providing about 48 hours of parking mode when fully charged. I preferred the extra expense (well not really!) rather than using the 12v Battery with one of those adjustable voltage cutout devices. A car starting battery is not intended to power a Dashcam in parking mode.

As your car is a hybrid? I can't comment on how the rechargeable battery may be connected. Possibly the inerior fuses are behind the glovebox. Your owner's manual should have that information.

Never had a Dashcam before but I am very happy with the quality of recordings from the Nextbase 380GWX supplied with our new car order. It does have a parking mode but not sure how many days or weeks the Battery would last without a journey to recharge it.

I suspect not very long. It can't be that big if it's in the camera base.

And Nextbase are a bit economical with that information.

"Will Parking mode drain my cameras Battery?

Given the right conditions, the cameras internal Battery can be run down by Parking Mode. This will only occur if Parking Mode is activated frequently and the vehicle is not being driven enough to keep the Battery topped up. In other words, you are using the battery faster than you can replenish it."

Atm mines In my puma, I decided to go with an external Battery ( hardwired) as I kept getting system shut down to save Battery message and I didn’t want to risk a flat Battery, the blackvue cut off was no use as the cut off voltage was quickly reached thus negating the parking mode so I opted for the external battery, I hope the Yaris cross doesn’t get issues with its battery ( 🤔)

Not a fan of parking mode with the Nextbase, it would save a protected video everytime i opened my car door and got in my car , if it was saving a protected video everytime i got in my car my SD card will quickly fill up so turned it off.
