Can anyone tell me what this light/led/sensor is?

Hi everyone,

I've got this little light / led / whatever that is suddenly turned on. It has always been off, at least I can't remember that little light being on to be honest.

Can anyone tell me what it is? I can't find it on the manual.

Thanks!

This is an LED to illluminate the dashboard in the area of the heater controls.  It dims in unison with the central dash meter brightness adjustment.

Is your car a hybrid, this led light usually is illuminating straight onto the gear selector at night and comes on always with headlights on. I have this built into the mirror instead. It’s cool and helpful. 👍

Oh wow thanks, I never-ever noticed it. Truth ro be told I rarely drive at night and that may be the reason. Thank you everyone 🙂

TonyHSD is correct. Its linked to the headlights system. It’s a downwards pointing LED which lights the hybrid gear selector area up at night time.

Why they didn't just stick an LED in the shifter as it's basically a glorified joystick ... I dunno!

@MagicBoy I too wish that the top of the gear stick lit up blue. How cool would that look?

It'd be immense. The LED in roof reminds me of the ThinkLight that IBM used to put on their early 2000s laptops. They put an LED above the screen to light up the keyboard. Phased out about 10 years ago in favour of the backlit keyboard.
