Just a question on the biopsy, was it painful and what do they do ? Up to now my psa seems to have stabilised but still high over the last 12 months my next psa is next month.

In case anybody is having something to eat, I won't describe exactly what a biopsy entails! 😅. Because of where the prostate is located. it needs to be accessed from, ahem, behind. I did not find it particularly painful, more uncomfortable, (but I did have a nice nurse holding my hand 😁). When I had the template biopsy done, that was under general anesthesia, so obviously, I did not feel anything. However, I was a bit sore for a few days and was told that if I had any pain whilst urinating, to dial 999 immediately. (I nearly did on a few occasions ). But with pain killers, I was soon back to normal.  As has been said, the PSA is an indicator only, so what is 'normal' for one man, might be 'abnormal' for another.

Pelvic floor exercises may help strengthen the muscles.

Indeed.  I was quite put out as I am still a keen lifter and stronger than most and I was thinking what do you mean lazy?  🤣

PSA test is not gospel but it's a useful indicator, if it's high get further tests just to be sure.  It shouldn't be used in isolation, so if it's normal but you're still weeing slow, get further tests.

At 53, I've got good low PSA, and I've had the doctors finger up there and I am ok, but my flow is not what it was and I can get the odd drip when I dont want to.  I talked to the doc and the  muscles that stop you weeing can get lazy apparantly, at the same time as the bladder squeezing harder but it is not a medical issue - it's not life threatening.

But a bit inconvenient and annoying Guy  🙁

So everything is done through your back passage? I've had the other tests finger , mri ,then drink loads of water to fill  your bladder ultra sound to see if I can empty my bladder.

While I was waiting  for the results of the ultrasound, the guy next tome said he was waiting to have a biopsy done and I asked what they do and he said they stick a hollow pipe up your knob with pincher at the end,  at this point I nearly past out😮 lol. So the bugger was winding me up me then ??

No, not winding you up, I had a mini camera up there, it's not pleasant, but necessary for the diagnosis.   I was however able to walk back home afterwards (10 minutes), and had a bit of discomfort for a couple of days afterwards.

I've also had a colonsocopy three times, and that's less stressful.

A Cystoscopy I assume. Me also. Again, under general anaesthetic...

Colonoscopies - had more than my fair share also. 😞

I don't like the sound of that, I'm a wimp when it comes to hospital procedure's.
