Does the Toyota Verso 1.6l Petrol 2018 have a BMW or a toyota engine?

I've read up that Toyota was using BMW engines from 2011 onwards in their verso 1.6 and 2.0l engine sizes. Does this also include the 2018 1.6l petrol engine for the V-Matic manual verso?

Thanks,

Ace

It's a 1ZR-FAE which is a Toyota Engine

As far as I know the petrol engines are Toyota 1ZR FAE(1.6) and 2ZR FAE (1.8). The diesels are BMW

Toyota only used the BMW diesel engines because they didn't have a 1.6 diesel to use in European market cars to complete with 1.6 diesels from other manufacturers, and it didn't make sense to develop their own with the expansion of hybrids. It also made sense from a manufacturing viewpoint to use the 2.0 litre as well. It was a short term solution lasting around 4-5 years

Petrol were Toyota.
