I was getting quotes for travel insurance for a week in Madeira.

Tried Saga, Santander, etc but came across Staysure which was advertised on the television the other evening. Half the price of Saga and Santander,  and was wondering if any of you guys have heard or used Staysure before ?

comments appreciated.

Hi Ian,

I always check out the claims reviews on these insurance companies as that is when it is the most important to have insurance. Have a look at this link and others it will help to give you an idea of how good or bad they are. Many of these companies sell insurance below the price of others to attract customers who rave they have saved money.

Unfortunately when a accident does happen there claims are often rejected on policy wording or flimsy excuses. Hope this helps

Hybrid, I have been with Staysure for a number of years as they were recommended for post Cancer travellers.

We have an annual policy and had to claim when my wife was diagnosed for a non cancerous event.  The insurers covered everything with no hassle.  The hassle came from our GP who had to fill out the medical data.  This was especially crucial as the event was within a week of the insurance starting.  The GP could not understand the form and put incorrect detail on the wrong places.  I got a fresh form, wrote it out and handed it in to copy.

Next I got another form and we stood over her and stopped her everytime she put her pen on the wrong box.

Anyway, further detail, automatic renewal is available.  With Covid we were not going on holiday within 12 months of the expiry of a policy.  We spoke with them and they ran various options through the computer, either renew and have a lower premium or reinsurer the following year.  They suggested reinsurer the following year.

We reinsurer for worldwide with a Caribbean cruise.  Given our age and me still in the post op window, it came to over £1 000.  The following renewal, Europe only, was about £300.

Definitely recommend them.

Roy, I'd be concerned by a GP that was unable to complete a form🙄

You never really find out how good an insurance company is until you make a claim.

We changed GPs.  Shall we just say it was a single GP who had 2 surgeries, worked one day a week, and employed a number of locum.

The new surgery has 5 GP, both full and part time and a larger flat car park.
