Looking to buy Auris Hybrid from Toyota Approved

Hi

Thinking of upgrading my 1.4 corolla to Auris hybrid. Can anyone help with pros and cons. Also how reliable are these as first time having a hybrid. What are the things to look out for when purchasing?

Many thanks for co-operation and assistance.

Cat theft - Auris hybrids are one of the vehicles targeted as the catalytic converter is extremely easy to steal.

Don’t blindly trust any Toyota dealer especially on used approved cars. Do check, and test everything yourself to make sure the car is in good shape and mechanically sound. 👍

Shahid, you should bring your car to independent mechanics, DEKRA, etc.  Check the underbody, all suspension and rubber parts.  The hybrid powertrain is very reliable and you have 15 years HV Battery warranty option.

If you want Auris, gets 2015-newer.  The facelift has safety sense option and improved insulations although do not spend too much that you are in Corolla 2019 price teritory.  The 2015 and newer has revised piston and piston rings that has much less tendency of oil consumption even beyond 150k miles.

I think Used approved just means the car has been serviced regularly and exclusively at Toyota garages, nothing more...

My dad's Verso was an Approved car and so was my first Yaris. They were mechanically sound for the most part, but the Verso was missing a key and had lots of broken trims inside, and sweet wrappers stuck down all the crevasses (All rectified by the dealer after some prodding, although we still find the odd one... god knows how spoilt the previous owner's kids were!). The Mk1 Yaris had several kilograms of sand and a small tree hidden in the wheel well

Edit: That's a very good point; Make sure there is a catlock; If it doesn't, make them fit one as part of the sale and also security mark it!

As above, really recommend DEKRA check before purchase. It's well worth it for the piece of mind and the Dekra report I've had done was fantastic - well over 15 pages inc. photos and a 20 min chat with the engineer discussing the outcomes.

I've never had much faith in the 150 or what ever check the dealers advertise.... I asked for the job sheet and they didn't have one....

Watch out for the dealership scam where they relieve you of 20 quid for fuel which you never recieve

I prefer individual seller for an older cars.  Dealership like to hide things.  They often spray paint the entire suspension parts so we cannot see any surface rust.  They wipe the exhaust tail so we cannot detect severe oil consumption.  They wash the engine so we cannot see any oil leak.  Front timing cover leak or rear main seals is 10h expensive job.

I like to see when the engine is dusty. It tells more things.

But if they give 1 y warranty bumper to bumper. It is fine.  Just watchout for oil leaks and oil consumption.  Unfortunately,  the limit is 1L per 1200 miles.
