Conversion to PHEV

I have 1.8L Prius Plus with Li-Ion batteries (UK). I just wondered whether there is a point and possible to add some batteries and/or some other modifications to make it plug-in type? Typically I commute less than 10 miles and it would be nice, if I could do that on EV only.

Best to buy phev Prius or whatever else you like. There is no easy way to convert existing hybrid into a plug in one and there is no point of doing it, also not worth it. 👍

Especially given the price difference between petrol and electricity.

Got your point. Only thing is the new Prius 2023 won't be available in the UK

This is my reason, why I want to go full EV or PHEV - I have solar PV, and all my production I send to grid is almost for free.

Go full EV or add batteries to your solar system.

I hear you. I did some more reading after I posted my question and realized the situation. There used to be some companies doing the conversion, but most of them, just scam.

Few months ago, we've made the decision to start saving for a new EV. As our Prius+ drive well, we will wait for some good offer. Furthermore, we like the new bz4x, and we're observing, what will happen to it. Wish there was an option to become a tester 😉

Pretend you're an auto-journalist and see if they'll lend you one for a long term test? :naughty:

We was in the same position as You some 1,5 years ago.

Loved our Prius + 2016 but wanted more EV range.

Loked for conversion, as You, but find out it was hard to find and not so economical.

We bought an Prius PHV 2018 as second car for EV only shorter trips but we needed bigger car/boot so we ended up swaping our Prius+ and Prius PHV for a used Rav 4 PHEV 2020.

Maybe something for You to consider/test ?

This is one of the things we love about our Prius+ - it's just the right size and, it costs us no more than 14p/mile (calculated).  Prius would be too small, Rav4 is slightly too big 😉 We looked at Prius PHEV before, but this is even smaller 😐 . I wish Toyota carried on making Prius+ and made it PHEV.

You can just keep the Prius plus as long as you can and Toyota eventually will offer a similar size bev replacement. I had a couple of pluses and I really like these cars, they are ultra practical indeed. 👍
