Same here, If I can’t charge at home (currently I can’t) I won’t be taking the EV route any time soon.

It's funny because I was saying similar things about the hybrids - I was spoilt by the Mk1 Yaris D4D as it did something very few cars did; It felt powerful, was fun to drive (Who ever heard of a high-revving diesel with a close ratio gearbox?? ) and you could hoon it around all day and still get 60mpg out of it!

When hybrids first appeared I liked the idea but not the reality; For all their claims and NEDC mpgs, none of them got even close to my beloved Mk1 in mpg and they were far less fun to drive, not having anything like that awesome low-end turbodiesel torque, so I declared I wouldn't go near them until they could surpass my Mk1.

Well it took Toyota 20 years but they finally did it!!

It’s taken me a long time to join forces with Toyota and the hybrid club.  I always do my homework before making an informed purchase but I spent a bit more time gathering information on this car and hybrids in general as I was moving out from a comfortable and established comfort zone.  Did the same when I looked at EVs and although I really wanted to get one, it quickly became apparent that they wouldn’t be suitable for me in the immediate and short term future.  Who knows what the future holds and maybe the shortcomings of EV ownership maybe resolved quicker than we think.

Aye.  I want a hydrogen hybrid frankly.  With every petrol station having a couple of hydrogen pumps.  That's my dream.

Hybrids are good since 2010 and gen 3 Prius. The only first two Priuses were more like trying to find the correct formula but then gen3 has nailed it and ever since the original idea of the system it’s almost unchanged only gets improved with each year/ generation. 👍

Hello it's the OP here, I have a little confession to make. Everything that I said about trying to purchase a Yaris last summer and the hassle that I had from my local Toyota dealership is true and I did buy a Suzuki Alto as a stand in car until I could find a new vehicle. But I did in fact purchase a Renault Clio E-tech RS-Line last October from a dealership in London. My wife initially wanted a Clio but unfortuately my local Renault dealership is run by the same clowns that run my local Toyota dealership, Hendy-Group, when we visited the Renault dealership the salesman was very dismissive of us and told us that he had been told to 'push' Dacia cars over Renault, I'm not interested in Dacia's myself so we went across the road to their Toyota dealership. We tend to keep our cars for two years before trading in for a new vehicle, I had been a Ford customer for a number of years so tend to stay 'loyal' to a brand. Ford weren't offering a self charging hybrid car at the time so this is why myself and my wife 'jumped ship'. We are very happy with our Clio so we will probably stick with Renault for the time being but this doesn't mean to say that I will be ruling out Toyota car ownership completely.

Good car the Clio but seems to eat front tyres and brake pads unless yours has disk brakes all round only changed because wanted to go Hybrid and Toyota seemed the best.

The Clio that I purchased is a self charging hybrid similar to the Yaris although the tech is very different, the only other choice in self charging hybrids was the Honda Jazz but unfortunately although the Jazz may be a very good car the looks don't do anything for me. At the time of looking for a hybrid last summer for me it was a diffucult choice between the Clio and the Yaris due to Toyota's years of experience in hybrid technology over Renault's.

Same here the Jazz's looks are not my cup of tea either, had more Toyota's over the years and they are now also very good to drive along with more years of Hybrid tec experience but the Clio was a more comfortable and quieter ride both good choices 👍

I'd be interested to hear how you get on with the Clio, as out of the 3 hybrid rivals (Yaris, Jazz, Clio) I know the least about the Clio!

Suppose only keeping it for 2 years should be ok under warranty, its a question mark on the reliability record of the longer term beyond warranty period as its a recent release.

The only thing the Clio hybrid has over the Yaris for me is more power and slightly bigger boot space and interior space? Not sure whether it has heated seats/steering, which would be better than the yaris. The Yaris pretty much trumps it with everything else.

Must admit it was the unknown reliability which knocked it off the short-list for me; Barring KHAAAAAN! or another of his ilk throwing another spanner in my plans, I intend to keep this until someone makes my unicorn EV... so I'm probably looking at at last a decade...!

You can get heated seats and steering wheel as an optional extra but the RS-line has a 9 inch infotainment touchscreen with built in sat nav and also a boot light and courtesy lights for the rear seat passengers which I don't believe the Yaris has. It also has two usb ports and the RS-Line also has a wireless phone charger in the centre consul.

Well we've only had the Clio since October last year so it's early days yet, but I'll definately keep you posted with how the car performs over the next couple of years.

Main reason for me and will be keeping the MK4 Yaris long term as well plus it came with a space saver tyre 😁

Interesting  to compare Toyota hybrids against other self charging hybrids particularly how they drive and fuel efficiency in different situations and reliability in long term ownership. Toyota drives very different from all others cars including other hybrids, it’s more like an electric car than ice one., that’s my point.
