why does the black top take so much more work to get in than the starlet engine?

because rather than using most of the standard Paseo wiring and engine mounts, you have to make custom wiring and custom engine mounts.

The Paseo was designed around an E series engine. Normally they have the 5E-FE or if you had a Jap spec one the 5E-FHE. The 4E-FTE shares the same engine mount configuration as the 1500cc version already fitted to your car.
