Rav4 2008 2.2 D4D "injector Fault"

Hi guys,

Looking for some advice. I have a 2008 rav4 d4d 2.2 100k on the clock, last year winter time it starting having issues with the car, it became a little difficult and very rough to start. As far as I can remember, it wasn't showing any faults on the dash, as i thought it was sounding a little weak, i changed the Battery to high capacity strong Battery, this helped a little but soon after same issue. Since we changed the glow plugs, had a service, oil change and so on. At some point the dash lights came on, issue was injector 4. This was changed with a genuine Toyota recon one from Toyota, it seemed ok but not the same as it used to be. Even after changing the above, it didn't start the same as it used to. as it was getting warmer outside, the starting issue wasn't apparent.

The last few months its becoming the same as it was last year, its thrown a fault on the dash again, we have had it scanned and the mechanic who repaired it last time is saying this time its saying injector but doesn't specify what one like last time. While running the car, he unplugged each one to see if he could tell if one wasn't working, it seemed all are. Hes been scratching his head with this car and ive spent a reasonable amount on it and still don't have a car running as it was. To be honest I brought this car as it supposedly very reliable for the Mrs, we have quite a few issues with it and this issue is really frustrating me as I cant really find anything online with anyone having the same issues.

Can anyone shed any light on what I can do next? Mechanic has suggested injector seals and copper ring on the remaining 3, I've called Toyota and they said they havent heard of the issue really either. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Kev, I posted last week having a similar fault with difficulty starting when the temp' dropped below zero. Starts fine when 2 degrees or higher.

Devon Aygo came up with this, look HERE

Hope it helps.

Thanks for the replies guys. I was thinking maybe I should take the car to Toyota to have it scanned there. Do you think they will be able to pin point the fault using their diagnostic equipment or is it pretty much the same system other garages have?

The mechanic is a specialist in VAG's I take it to (i know its not a Toyota specialist), i cant find anyone thats a specialists  in Toyota's at all, ive asked multiple people in the car trade. He looks after my other car and really does know his stuff.

Opinions welcome.
