2011 Toyota Aygo rear fog light not working.

My daughters Aygo has just failed its MOT on two counts. Rear foglight bulb not working, and rear fog light tell not showing on dash.

I've changed the bulb and it still doesn't work.

Bit of background. There was an issue with the right indicator tell not working on the instrument cluster. Toyota said it needed a replacement indicator stalk. I changed this and it was exactly the same. So we took the instrument cluster to a specialist who refurbished it last week and that works fine.

I suspect therefore that there isn't a problem with the tell not working, but rather it'd linked to the fog lights nor working. Could this be a fuse/relay? Any help greatly appreciated

A quick look at the wiring diagram shows the dash tell tail and rear fog  are fed off the 7.5a ECU-B fuse (no relay pre 2012) it's only the fog light switch

see if you have power on the stalk connector pin 2, white and pin 4, red with the fog lights on (with side and main light on)

Thanks for this and sorry for being a bit dumb. I'm very much on the amateur side of amateur, but could I just try changing the fuse? Given both the fog light and tell are not working, it would seem a likely cause.

If I can just try the fuse which fuse is it?

That fuse covers other items, but wouldn't hurt to check it, unplugging and plugging the stalk is worth a try too - the indicator/light stalk are a known common issue on the Aygo

if you do replace the stalk, don't buy a cheap Chinese one

Oops. I've already replaced the stalk with...... a cheap Chinese one. I only did this because the indicator tell was not working and Toyota told me it needed a stalk. They were wrong though and the replacement stalk didn't fix it. So I had to get the instrument cluster refurbished.

I do still have the original stalk that doesn't have an issue so it's an option to put that back on.

Do you know exactly which fuse I can try to replace?

Thank you so much. This is really helpful and I also hadn't even considered that I could test the stalk without removing the airbag!

Thanks so much for the help with this and you were bang on with the cheap Chinese indicator stalk. I tried changing the fuses but no difference. So I unclipped the wiring for the indicator stalk and tried it with the old stalk and bingo. Everything works! I'll get it changed tomorrow and retested for the MOT.

Hi @flash22 how did you solve the problem? During mot/servicing they changed the stalk but still no light although passed mot, at home no rear fog light.

Not my car, I was assisting the OP

OP changed the stalk

if you have a meter, check fuse and check for corrosion and voltage at the bulb

Hi

After having the same problem, with a non working rear fog lamp, I found the connector pin on the rear light to be rusty and rust in the wiring loom plastic plug connector. Some WD40 and contact cleaner, has fixed the problem.
