Engine warning light

Hi

Bought a Toyota Auris Hybrid Excel 2016 last week and my Catalytic converter got stolen after 2 hours of delivery. My garage fitted a new one and after 1 day of driving a eingine warning light appeared and never turned off. I called my garage and the guy said to keep driving as this is not dangerous and the light may go off after a week.

I am not sure if this happens and will appreciate if any one else can suggest anything

What a joke is that recommendation. You better go back to the place and ask them to fix the car properly. If everyone it’s ok there won’t be any lights. Without diagnostic and reading the fault codes we can’t say anything more.

Take the car back and ask them for a print out any error codes and if they reprogrammed any sensors after they refitted the new one. It is likely they haven't reprogrammed or cleared any fault codes. Shouldn't be any faults if fitted correctly. 👍

I’ll bet it’s either wrong sensor or Chinese, these sensors need to be branded at least or original part, should say on invoice what he’s bought

Could also be a leak along the system. When cat is replaced on these cars they are two gaskets they needs to be replaced too, and if fitted wrong way or not tighten to the spec the exhaust gasses may leak and make the engine noisy and even to toxic fumes to enter the car.

Being a car owner in UK is never boring.

I wonder when they will start selling booby traps for cat's.

Always use original Toyota parts for O2 sensor and catalytic converter. Others failed quickly. Those are parts that need to be original. Others like brakes, struts, filter are ok with after market.

Depending where you purchase them.

I had a Honda Concerto (Rover 213/216 shape) 22 years ago and my oxygen sensor failed - I went to Honda and they quoted me £150+VAT to replace etc.

I went to my local trusted garage and they did it all for £60 and they told me they are all "mainly" manufactured at the "same place" - only difference is once Honda sign a contract they have 'Honda' laser-etched onto the parts and they charge for the privilege.

Needless to say my Concerto ran for a further 5 years and was still going great until i sold it.

Swings and roundabouts i suppose 🙂

Yes, if you can get original OEM like Denso, NGK, Aisin, they are often identical with Toyota one. It is true for spark plugs, O2 sensors, water pump, injectors, and Air mass flow sensors

Aisin brakes and KYB struts are not identical as the one from Toyota although they are made by KYB or Advics-Aisin.
