Anyone got running boards?

Just curious really. I don't, but thought they looked cool and probably help when washing the roof of the car (I can just about reach with the sponge without but 6ft3 helps as I discovered) and loading a Roof Rack. Is there any other reason?

I didn't go for them because I was worried they might decrease ground clearance and become rock sliders. This may not be the case of course.

Jet wash was broken at services otherwise I'd have parted with my 4 quid.🤣

They give some protection to the side of the car, I've not got them fitted on the Rav4 but I had some on a Honda CRV and they can catch the back of your leg when getting out.

They may not be that useful for washing the roof because the door over hangs the at a higher level and stop you getting a decant foot placement on them.

Exactly as above - side steps make excellent extended mud flaps keeping muck off the side of the car but they are equally good at transferring said muck to one's trousers when getting in and out. They are little to no help in reaching the roof etc. and not that much help getting in and out (and we are a lot less than 6'3" here).

They look good though ... perhaps ...

A previous RAV came with side steps - I've opted not to fit them since.

Good advice, thanks each. The catching on trousers is definitely one I'd need to avoid.

I have repurposed a Scottish & Newcastle Breweries bottle crate to stand on while washing & drying the roof of my Rav, as I'm only 6' 2".

5’ 11” and use an old caravan step stool that we repurposed when we got ride on the van many years ago, perfect.

Right, need to find an old crate. Save stretching my back out. TBH though it's only about the 3rd time I've washed it in 18 months. Embarrassing confession.

I'm the same Nick....I always kid myself that the dirt protects my paintwork 😁

I used to be pretty good at giving the car a regular wash but over the last year or so have tended to give it a really good going over and protection and then wait till I feel the urge to give it another go.

🤣 Well I suppose it might have held some of our old cars together. Had one with moss growing out of it once but I didn't want to remove it in case the door window fell out.

I worked in Hong Kong on an installation job back in the 70's we used to put Mung Bean seeds along the fibre window seals on Friday evening and they would be ready to eat on the way to site on Monday morning. 🤣
