Japanese import car insurance

I was trying to get a quote from AF for a car I'm looking to import from Japan (EVO X final edition) only to be told it can't be insured. Yes I tried the list with no avail. The vibes I'm getting is the car needs to be in UK in order for them to be able to quote insurance. What beats me is that they can't they provide a quote based on the assumption that the car is here. As mentioned it would be shooting myself on the foot only to get a 4-5k insurance on a 26k car.
