Hi, hoping someone can help me, I’m looking at getting a 07 or 08 rav4 2.2 D4D but unsure if these were fitted with a dpf, if they were I will only look at petrol. Does anyone know?

My rav 4 T180 2.2 2006 was fitted with a DPF Toyota called it DCAT. So in answer to your question probably yes.

It's complicated!!!! Some detail on the AD series engines is given here and states that there are three variants of emission control system:

  1. CCO (DOC) - with oxidation catalyst, matching Euro-4. CCO function - oxidation of hydrocarbons (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) to water (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2).
  2. CCO + DPF - with oxidation catalyst and a diesel particulate filter, matching Euro-4/5. DPF function - accumulation and combustion of soot particles. Also additional exhaust fuel injector used.
  3. D-CAT - with the oxidation catalyst, NOx catalyst and particulate filter, matching Euro-4/5.

So an earlier, lower performance car with a manual gearbox that is certified at Euro 4 will not have a DPF. Euro 5, higher performance cars (such as the T180 / SR180) and automatics will have a DPF.

So would the 2.2 d4d manual fall into the lower performance 134bhp and not have a dpf?

That would be my expectation, but I wouldn't give any guarantee ...

A 2007 / 2008 D4D would also fall within the range described within this thread:

Maybe not a problem if it has already been fixed. Or if it hasn't failed by now, maybe it never will. But buyers should be aware of the potential risk ...
