Hi

Just taken delivery of my new Yaris Cross Hybrid Icon and have to say I’m very impressed.
id like to buy at reasonable price a 16 inch spare space saver wheel and tyre, jack and brace.
Advice please where cheapest  and would it be the same fitting from any old scrapped Yaris? Many thanks.

How about this c£170 Inc p&p for a 16" wheel with tyre. At least if you have a blow out, the AA/RAC could fit it for you.

Thanks for that. Just  seen a previous mention of full wheel and tyre kits from Toyota direct parts at £248. Might go for that.

Can you let me know what you did in the end. I am in the same position with a yaris cross icon with 16" wheels.

I seem to pick up punctures quite often and most of the time a can of tyre weld does the trick. 2 though were not so good. One was right before Xmas a couple of years ago and tyre weld only held up long enough for me to limp to kwikfit who charged me a ridiculous sum to fit a new tyre and the other was when a tyre blew out on the motorway and I couldnt find the wheel spanner.

Thanks Chas

I have emailed toyota parts direct to get an up to date price for the wheel, tyre and kit. I would prefer to get the proper kit because it will all fit nicely in the boot. When I bought from a none toyota set for an aygo, the wheel fit was OK but the jack and other bits were generic and I ended up wrapping them in carpet to stop them rattling about. I confirmed that my wheel are 16" diameter.

I will let you know their response

ps I have also emailed wheelshop if they do kit for yaris cross 16"

Bear in mind that Toyota Direct Parts is operated by a Toyota dealer (Fish Bros).

I received my 16" yaris cross space saver together with the jack, wheel brace and all odd bits and bobs. The space saver tyre is much better than the one I bought for a mk2 Aygo from a none toyota retailer. The tyre has "temporary use only" written on the side but has plenty of tread. I am glad  that I stumped up the extra for the proper wheel, tyre and kit because everything fits perfectly and I don't have to have a generic jack sliding about in the boot. I feel much happier having the spare in the boot.

For those of you who do have a space saver wheel, do you all have it in the boot under the tray and not secured to the car in any way ?

The spare wheel fits in the boot and is secured with a long set screw with a large plastic handwheel that goes into a retained nut in the wheel well. A polystyrene moulding tray for the wheel brace goes on top and then the carpet cover.

Everything you need comes in the kit from Toyota parts on line.

This was the one negative (the only one) of me buying the AWDi version, no room for spare, there does look like there's room if you rip out the polystyrene and bits, but I'm guessing by looking at it there's something in the top left AND I also have the JBL system, which I think part of that may be in there also.

Don't know about the Cross but I'm guessing that as far as the JBL system is concerned, it will be under the driver's seat like it is in the ordinary Yaris.

Just looks like there's loads of space in here.  To save me taking apart my new car, does anyone know what's under this huge piece of polystyrene?

Probably exactly the same as on the standard Yaris. I removed a similar moulding from my Premiere Yaris in order to mount my spare wheel kit. You'll find that the huge tray is held to the boot floor using the same threaded hole that the spare wheel bolt screws in to...

But was there anything under it ?  Everything I have read online states the AWD Yaris Cross cannot take a spare wheel !!

Sorry Bobby, my mistake. I didn't notice the "AWDi" in your bio. Unfortunately, the boot floor in that version of the Cross is higher to accommodate the rear electric motor and therefore the standard spare wheel kit will not fit. 😢

I'm thinking of getting a Space Saver to chuck in the boot (strapped down) for future longer journeys as back up.  However, I have read that the AA (and RAC) carry space saver wheels that fit 90% of cars, so is it really necessary!!

My Yaris Cross has 18" wheels (unfortunately no room in my AWDi to fit one properly), would the genuine space saver mentioned below be suitable and safe ?

Bobby, my space saver is a 16 inch which have the same diameter as a shod 18 inch.

I think it is a one-size fits all.  Not sure about other Toyota models.

On a rear wheel I noticed no difference in handling,  not had to use it on a front wheel.

@152bobby However, I have read that the AA (and RAC) carry space saver wheels that fit 90% of cars, so is it really necessary!!

Well no.  However with your own spare you can do a wheel change and be on your way in 30 minutes.

I had to change two wheels in a month.  I have the Goodyear Comfort ones.   The first took 3 days the second next day.

With my own space saver, once I had the new tyres that was job done.   With an AA/RAC spare I am not sure how you return it to them.

On one trip I made we got a puncture just before the ferry.  Caught the ferry in the knick of time then had to drive 100 miles in France until we found a garage who was willing to change the tyre there and then.
