All Uk Cars Clocked Mileages ?

i settled on the corolla, as i thought, oh well, ALL CARS seem to be clocked in the uk, so i might as well get one that is built to last

seriously though, its a national industry, i test rode a 39,000 mile Rover, that was absolutely worn out EVERYWHERE , must have done over 200,000 !

saw about 12 other cars, all 30 - 60,000 miles, that CLEARLY had done much much more by the worn out state of the interior, engine dept, chassis, door hinges etc etc

is anyone in the uk doing anything about it ?

all the cars in the dealer ( large chain ) had a sticker saying " mileage is to be verified by NMI ( or whatever company ) and that a buyer should not rely on reading until the NMI report comes in "

WHO HAS EVER got that report with their car ?

no one, they sell 1000s of used cars, AND NOT ONE has ever had the report given to the customer OR actually available at all

its a massive SCAM !

they buy high mileage fleet cars, at auction, RE CLOCK them, then sell it to themselves ( ie company A to B to C - all really same people ) and charge over book price !!!!!

its a nightmare, even with a full dealer stamped book, thats NO PROOF, they can easily ' borrow' or copy up a dealer stamp

only a series of invoices and old mots would actually ensure confidence in the mileage / history

and extremely few cars anywhere have a log of invoices, and repair / warranty work , full mots, dealer servicing,,,,,i would say less than 5 %.

hmmm, maybe i need a new career change, so much money to be made in car scams, and virtually risk free.......!

That's why when buying a 2nd hand car full service history and all old MOT certs are available. This will proove the cars mileage.

I had an Escort a long time ago that had 22 000 miles on the clock. It was very obvious that there were a lot more on it. But all paper work was in order the clock had just gone complete round... Twice!! So in reality it has 222 000 mile on it :o :D

Also if you think about the families that one member does all the school runs and shopping. The daily ride will never do more than 5 miles a day and the kids molest the interior (and exterior). Cars that get this sort of use often look well abused and clocked

alot of people these days dont even bother looking after cars

unlike enthusiasts like ourselves wholl spend hours lavishing and detailing the bodywork and keeping mechanical aspects in tip top conditon, most ppl will be happy to torture there cars for a 3 quid stint in a deathwash down at the local garage once a month, leave the service until theres some cash available and generally not care!

Having worked in the car trade for the last 14 years, I can say that yes clocking does unfortunatley still go on but to say 90% of used cars out there have been clocked is a slight exaggeration!

Do you really think that most franchise dealers would knowingly sell a car that has been clocked?

This kind of scam is usually confined to one man band operations or used car lots etc not franchised dealers. Thats not to say all used car lots are crooks, most of them are decent honest people trying to make a living & also not every franchise dealer is up front & honest. Like most industries the car trade has its rogues but you are making a massive generalisation in the statements that you made.

wel my car aint clocked its spotless inside but done 30k in 3 yrs its just i care for my car, reguarly serviced, cleaned twice weekly,

A few of my previous cars had been clocked, not a lot I could do about it at the time due to finances.

My last 3 cars have been bought from new which includes my current YTS.

I intend keeping this one for as long as possible. I like having the peace of mind knowing how it’s been driven and treated.

No kerbing, no kids, no smoking no dogs regular servicing and polishing.

I’m hoping it will last till I retire!

if cars are looked after, serviced regular and kept in A1 condition then theres no doubt that they can make it to the moon and back

My first car was a Fiesta made in 1996, apparently it had only done 65k but I'm sure it had done more cos I had no end of problems with it - it obviously wasnt cared for.

no it had prob only done 65k it just had the curse of the blue oval
