What is the best way to get more mpg?
on paper my car can get roughly 42mpg combined. however according to my car computer the avg mpg is about 27. not sure if this is E10 petrol or my driving style.
Any tips to improve my mpg will be very much helpful

How long have you had the car?

How far have you driven?

What journeys are you doing?

Firstly the official figures don't represent what an owner will achieve. They were obtained using a standard laboratory based testing regime to provide a comparison tool to compare models.

I would do a brim to brim calculation to get a more accurate picture of what the car is actually doing, rather than rely on the car's reading.

From memory, when I had my 2006 Corolla 1.4, I used to get approx 33mpg around town (Birmingham - with heavy traffic) and approx 42mpg on a long run (2 up, full load of luggage, 60% motorway).

Rhys, your mileage is quite low.  This suggests shorter trips and that is where you can expect higher consumption.  I am guessing, but that seems likely.

The car is also 19 years old and that could have a bearing in its consumption.  Elsewhere on this forum is mention of the importance of regular servicing,up in particular oil changes based on time or mileage which ever occurs first.  In your case that will be every year rather than mileage.

The 1.4 petrol is an older engine so quite robust but isn't as economy focused as newer engines.

Its mpg rating is almost certainly on the old NEDC cycle, so basically it's a fantasy and will be almost impossible to reach in the real world barring perfect conditions

All the usual economy driving tips apply - Look ahead and anticipate, try to minimize braking and acceleration in favour of constant motion, leave bigger buffers in traffic so you don't have to stop as much and can roll through stop-start etc.
