Poor staring whistling turbo

Hi guys and gals

I have a seemingly common problem but I've seen no definitive answer.

I have a 2005 2.0 d4d with 80k it has the famous hot starting problem even when cold it struggles a little.

Secondly is the turbo doesn't kick in till 4k and whistles like a work man . From what I've seen they tend to come hand in hand with each other . Some suggestions are scv turbo boost valve clogged egr/ cat new starter new turbo . But all this would be a write off .

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Scott,

Have a look at this link it is worth reading through as it revolves around hot starting problems and what they have done .

The turbo whistle is a a common problem and I am sure a member with the knowledge of how to resolve this without undue cost will reply.👍

Hi Scott

Regarding the hot start give the earth cables a really good clean. If you search on hot start issues you'll find a few post's where I've provided instructions. Mines been good now for several years so it can be fixed and I reckon in a lot of cases the earth cables are at fault.

I also had a turbo issue although different to yours as it would spool normally but drank oil, I got it replaced for £800 (with a Garett refurb). I live very close to Diss, so can give garage details if it's near.
