Emergency brake

Re Yaris Cross reg 2020.  I was travelling up a slight hill when a pedestrian walked around from the front of his car to get in and my car did the crash warning light and did an emergency stop.  Not a nice experience.  Has anyone had this problem as garage not wanting to know as no other warning lights came on.

Hi Carol,

Have a look at this link for adjustments on sensitivity if it's part of the pre-collision and your set up on ypur corolla is the same .👍

Looking for the link, but can prob find it in the manual. Had it happen to me when emerging into a traffic flow: the car that set it off was already past my nearside according to the dash cam. Glad it's adjustable.

The system detects a collision with a car or person.  It can’t differentiate between a real situation and you heading for a parked car or person.  It happens driving through a chicane of parked cars but it only intervenes if it detects you are going too fast to avoid a collision.  There’s a message somewhere!

Indeed! It happens (Or used to!) to me a lot - Less so to the point where it actually stops the car, but often the brake warning. The system just isn't set up for tight urban roads, esp. ones with parked cars lining the sides and islands!

The system is 'predictive' but doesn't understand that people normally stop at the pavement kerb or their car, or that you are seemingly steering onto a collision course with a parked car to steer round an island; If it sees something that it calculates will intersect with you in less than a second, it will stop the car

I've had to adjust my driving to go a bit slower and leave more margin to avoid spooking it so easily...

Thanks for replies, have found where to adjust sensor and as I am now a bit paranoid of it happening again will reduce sensitivity point.
