Most of us have a old cigarette liter plug we not using so put it to use.IMG_0459.thumb.JPG.1246c1b7cf3d54bb91cb6974874b2f63.JPG

I used a 0 to 24 volt display and fitted it into a disregarded top of a spray grease can and bolted it to a old cigarette lighter plug.

If you plug it in for a few seconds then remove it when you get the reading its not going to be a problem.

How many seconds is a few.....do you live next door to a fire station?  🙂

Loads of properly made ones available....at a resonable price.

I don't think it would take more than two to get a reading so don't think my distance from the fire station would be an issue.

I agree and that's what i would use if i ever need one.

I do have a multimeter which only cost £8.50 at Halfords it does the job but obviously you have to lift the bonnet and uncover the terminals to take a reading so the 12v socket gadget is a lot easier to use.

If the intention is to check Battery condition then this is tricky to do from the accessory socket. I believe the true state is available briefly in certain circumstances.

Given that most Car Review channels on You Tube seem obsessed about if you can fit a large enough water bottle into your door pockets they may recommend a water fire extinguisher? if you can fit it into your door pockets that is 😂

How many cars do you know of that have actually caught on fire because of a 12v accessory

A typical 12v AUX plug has an internal or changeable fuse, usually fused down from the 10-15 amp supply what in turn is fused and is also a switch live

only time i have seen a big burn is from an amplifier that wasn't fused at the Battery

I now unlike any reviewers video that mentions it they have all  jumped on the scratchy plastic bandwagon, i have never got in a car for a test drive and stroked all the surfaces to make sure they are soft, morons.

Yeah I love how they will obsessively whinge about hard plastics like it actually matters, but will not say anything about e.g. the oil filter being a PITA to get to in other cars or the fact that tyres cost £300+ a corner.

Well that 80s Ford most wiring looms are just twisted and taped together, very under specced wiring and fuses swapped, as the 10a kept blowing

Plus radios have at least 2 power feeds, i have seen my fair share of bodged radio installs (Escort and Orion owners seem to be some of the worst offenders) lost count of the times connectors have been hacked off wires twisted together and taped up with Sellotape or masking tape

Friend of mine repeatedly complained about a Clarion radio / cd player he fitted in to his Cavalier & that he had wired up himself - it kept cutting out during use or refusing to power up at all.

Plugging this same Clarion in to my car that had factory wiring & of course it worked perfectly but he wouldn't believe it was his wiring job causing the fault.

He was a fan of the twist & tape method 🤣

Can I see a wd-40 cap in your creation?

I am fully supportive for any work like that, as long as you know what you are doing there is no risk of anything and it is job well done, useful and proudly made by yourself 🛠🪛🗜
