Well that 80s Ford most wiring looms are just twisted and taped together, very under specced wiring and fuses swapped, as the 10a kept blowing

Plus radios have at least 2 power feeds, i have seen my fair share of bodged radio installs (Escort and Orion owners seem to be some of the worst offenders) lost count of the times connectors have been hacked off wires twisted together and taped up with Sellotape or masking tape

Oh that one was certainly well bodged flash, the fire brigade confirmed that the back of the stereo was the source of the fire.

And when I looked there was a fair amount of melted plastic, I suspect that it had been wired direct with no protecting fuse.

But I suppose even a stray positive wire with no insulation sparking on the metal frame of the dashboard would be enough.

TonyHSD you right about the cap.

For those wearied about safty cap is bolted on using a plastic nut & bolt its also glued.

The leads inside the plug are offered extra protection from heat shrink tubing.

This way you have more choice in the colour of the display.

Accuracy of display +- one digit but you need to add the voltage drop expected with systems starting up if checking in accesory mode but that applies to all in car voltage displays.
