Hey guys. Does anyone know how to get the footage off an integrated front camera, just at the top of the windscreen, behind the rear view mirror, as we had someone smash our wing mirror and we're looking to get a plate, however we've taken the bits apart and I can't find anywhere for an SD card or anything to take out 😕 thanks in advance!

If you mean the forward facing camera then it isn't a dash cam so there will be no footage saved.

Ahh bum! I assumed it was a Dashcam 😞 thankyou

If you mean the sensor pod that's stuck to the windscreen and part of the mirror assembly, I'm afraid that isn't a Dashcam and doesn't record any images   unless there is a third-party integrated dash camera installed into the pod. You can post a picture just to be sure, but I feel that is unlikely.

A dash cam is usually a separate part stuck to the windscreen which has more obvious slots for USB power cables and memory cards.

Edit: forking beat me to it!

Its just the forward facing camera which is part of the Toyota Safety Sense system.

I thought that was behind the Toyota Badge on the front grill?

There's a forward facing radar sensor behind the front Badge, that works alongside the forward facing camera for Safety Sense.

To be fair it's madness that in an age of pointless "improvements" that no manufacturer has actually provided a few gb of storage and a way to download it.

I can understand why, as Flash memory has a limited lifespan and writing GBs of video over and over again will kill it very quickly - Tesla already ran into that problem with their earlier head units dying prematurely because the limit amount of flash memory got killed by camera footage and log files being continuously written.

That said they could add an SDcard and/or USB slot you could tell it to save the files to, but it would likely need extra hardware to convert the image data to MP4 or TS to save onto the card I guess it's just not a very high priority for them. I'm also not sure if the sensor pod camera footage is just a normal picture or some weird computer image!

To be fair, it's like satnav - Even if they did put one in, I likely wouldn't use it as it'd quickly go out of date. If they did it'd probably be 720p and a normal sensor, wheras newer dashcams are 4K and some have started using the new sony starvis2 sensor which has incredible night vision and the only sensor AFAIK that supports HDR at 60fps.

A few certain Citroen / DS vehicles do have a forward facing dash cam function integrated into the front camera & linked to there smart phone app.

Only certain models have it fitted either as standard or as an option.

IIRC it's Citroen connected cam

Yes seen that Lee, it’s built into the rear view mirror. Very neat.
